Doing an IPSC mini-rifle build and decided to go with a Vortex SPARC as my choice of optics.. I'm assuming that speed of acquisition is key and mounting it as far forward as possible would be beneficial? Using a rail like the one in the picture http://www.jsesurplus.com/images/products/detail/MNT22TOWL2.jpg Thanks in advance for any thoughts you guys might have on the topic. Willing to hear them all the rifle's still a W.I.P.

I have a SPARk mounted on a CX4 Storm and like it. Mounting it forward gives you a larger field of view when you shoot with both eyes open. I like the SPARC it should give you years of service. I had mine mounted on my Marlin 30-30 for awhile and it worked fine there as well.

Take Care

Thanks Bob. Can't wait to get the new stock and finally take my baby to the range. By the time I'm done with her, she'll be good for a bit of this...

...but that'll have to wait for a year + whatever time it'll take to sort out the firearm licensing abroad  Stil, it'll be fun to set up, play with for a bit and I might prevail on running some handgun or rifle stages before I go, just to get used to her going *BANG*BANG*

Where are ou off too?

Chile - at least for a few years. My wife's going back to school for a career change, already owns a condo so won't have to pay rent, I can do my current job from there (gotta love telecommuting), and the club I wanna join is basically all IPSC, alternating handgun/shotgun/mini-rifle. Semi-auto centerfire rifles are banned for now and I prefer long guns to handguns, so I'm doing my 10/22 build. Will miss the SKS and the T97 :(

Thanks.. Well, as long as I keep my current job, I'll be pretty comfortable down there even with the Mrs. not working while in school. Living expenses will be lower, but guns and ammo are twice as expensive on average so it's a wash... And I see myself importing lots of "airsoft accessories" for my personal use

Edit: Now I'm mostly gonna focus on 2 things:

1) Getting proficient in all 3 (well about to get my first shotgun) to represent Canadian shooters well
2) Taking advantage of action shooting that I won't be able to enjoy down there (mostly rifle/3gun)

Can't wait for spring to come!

Just a note about positioning your red dot: The further forward you place it, the more you change the balance of the rifle. It's not huge, but if you've got a light 10/22 build, you will definitely notice it. The Sparc is not lightweight for a red dot.

That's a valid point - thanks for sharing. I'll definitely test out how she handles with/without and in various positions.
