Just going through my CZ Shadow box again and noticed the spare main spring. (Well, I'm pretty sure it is, anyway) I don't see any markings on the little plastic bag at all.

Is this just a spare of the same 'weight' as the one inside?

What is the expected life of these, and are there signs of fatigue or something that you'd know when to replace, or do most just change it after a particular round count.

After a few boxes of factory 9mm, I'm generally shooting Wolf reloaded TMJ in it, and cheapo bulk box (whatever is at Walmart) in my .22lr Kadet kit on it.

Thanks for any info.

Anyone know where to get a 13# main spring in canada? I ordered some stuff from czcustom but they were out of the 13# main springs. Got a 15# one for now... definitely lighter than what was in there.

Comparing the spare one to the one I took out of my gun, I'd say the spare was heavier than the one originally installed in the pistol... they were definitely different springs that came with mine.

Just keep checking their site and maybe call and ask Zoe when they expect them. Get a couple at once. If planning on shooting light reloads, get some #11 and #13 recoil springs since you are at it, spare mags, maybe spare slide stop. Keep total order under $100 before shipping...

^ Someone needs to tell ceezer and sigtactical

Replacement main spring may 'feel' stronger as it's not been compressed yet while installed one was rated same when it was new.
That's why springs get replaced after 1000-5000 rounds depending on the gun and light or P+ loads shot (for recoil spring) and if gun is used for ccw (being cocked all the time).

That is incorrect. The spare hammer spring is just that...a spare. Same weight as the spring in the gun.

If you want a lighter spring you need to buy it separately.

Sorry.

uggh??i had no spare hammer spring in my case, just a softer recoil spring.... a softer one...or am i wrong?? it might be..:kickInTheNuts:.but i'll check this out carefully.

the fact is that i asked the clerk at my store when i picked it up(8 months ago), then i forgot that thing as i feel comfortable with it in stock trim(i only polished lightly the trigger assembly where it count ....good Q,i must look at it to see, cuze i've considered trying a softer recoil spring (the one in the box) just to see what is the deal with the softer one.

Correct me if I'm wrong here... but the only reason to switch the recoil spring to a lighter spring would be if you're shooting light reloads that won't cycle the pistol properly with a heavy recoil spring in?

Hammer/main spring on the other hand go as light as you can while getting good primer strikes to have a light double action pull.

The Shadow comes with a spare main spring. I believe it's of the same poundage as the installed spring, which is 18#. The factory recoil spring on the Shadow is 15#. Competitors like to drop the main spring to 13#, which will work fine to fire off any north american primers and 11# recoil spring for lighter competition loads (but will batter your pistol good if you shoot full power loads with it installed).

Ok, so the consensus seems to be that it is a spare 18# main spring, the same that's in the gun. It is def not the recoil spring. So, when would I change this one? When it breaks?

Thanks folks.

Main spring = hammer spring....affects DA trigger pull....I put a 13lb in my gun for IPSC Production. If you want to reduce your DA pull (and don't plan to shoot Production with your gun) you can cut 1 or 2 coils off the spring. About the only time I could see replacing this spring would be if my trigger pull gets too close to the 5lb limit for PD. I don't see how it could break or fail.

Recoil spring mounts under your barrel. If you are shooting factory loads you are better off sticking with the factory spring. I put an 11lb recoil in my gun to smooth out the cycle and speed up re-aquiring the target. I will know I need to replace it when my brass starts to become a hazard to low-flying aircraft :) Right now my brass is falling 1 or 2 meters from the gun. I have 5-6k on this spring and so far I see no change in ejection distance/trajectory.

Huh? That is a new one on me :) I never heard of a spare recoil spring being included. It is easy to check. Rack your pistol with the current spring, change springs and repeat....if there is a big difference you will feel it.

Let us know what you find out.

i was wrong effectively...the spare spring is a main spring for a lighter trigger pull. part number 21#. but the clerk told me it was a 13# pound spring.
