I am entertaining the idea of picking up a 1911 9mm.
I seem to be attracted to the RIA tactical II and the Spartan V.
All my comparisons are web based as I have seen neither one in person.
Anyone able to provide opinions / advice or have experiences with these makes that they can share?

Thx

Can't really help..but I've heard great things about the spartan...good luck with the search...

I've seen both but have not shot either. Made by same company though branded differently. Seems to be priced competitively just no info on long term reliability. Rock Island Armory is built by Armscor which is a long established firearm manufacturing facility in the Philippines. They have earned a good reputation in the US market and now trying to do the same here in Canada. Currently, the only company who can give Armscor a run for their money on the basis of pricing and design/build quality is SAM. There are better brands in the market. But be prepared to pay a premium. Armscor also currrently builds few more rebranded 1911s like Citadel, Cimarron, to name a few. They also use to build Charles Daly for KBI.

With the Spartan you get STI internals and it's tuned to their specs, you won't have to mess with anything, just clean, lube, and enjoy.

I have recently acquired a RIA tactical II in .40 S&W. I also have a STI Trojan in 9mm. I enjoy them both and no issues with either. As far as esthetics is concerned, I prefer the RIA.

Check the 1911 by Girsan, made in Turkey. Its on wanstalls, I think for $599, it has the tactical rail tho. Although prob safer w sti or ria. Couldn't find too many reviews on the Girsan.

Add Tanfoglio to the list of pistols they make.

I like the GI slide serrations on that RIA posted above. The problem with the wide ones of the modern racy style is they are ice skate sharp and will pare the callous from my thumb if I'm not careful....another reason why I rarely take a 2-handed grip.

Or is this one of the things you deal with during a dehorning?

I have a RIA Tactical in 9mm and it is very well built and at half the price of the STI the RIA is a steal imo. The other one i would look at is SAM unless you don't mind paying for a high end product then by all means look at the STI,Sig or Kimber

The RIA Tactical is $400 new?

Back to answering your question I have a 9mm Spartan and I love it. Very accurate with a good trigger. I reload and so far (~3k rounds) no failures of any kind. I haven't tried an RIA.TC
