I found some 140 gr .270 Nosler Accubonds that shoot nicely out of my Ruger #1.... first 3 rounds are into about an inch or so pretty consistently....

A bit light for moose? Any experience out there trying it?

Shot an elk and a couple deer with those 140's, complete pass throughs (through neck vertebrae on two). Perfect bullet for the 270 on moose. I do not shoot them anymore though as I found that Hornady interlock / sst's work fine for the kind of shots I make.

PC; I Have a 700CDL chambered in 270, and I use that 140 Accubond for everything. It shoots sooooo well (no other bullet can match it, accuracy-wise) I have yet to recover a bullet, since everything I have shot with it has resulted in a passthrough. I have not shot a moose with it, but elk die quickly, and IMHO, moose are easier to anchor than are elk. If you are around MOA with that #1, you have a decent load. Go kill something (anything) with it!! BTW, have you chronographed your load? I assume you have a #1B (26" barrel?) My 24" tube yields just over 3000, using Vihtavuori N165. Good group posted below. Regards, Eagleye.

Wow! That's a keeper!

Nice shooting!

I was using factory ammo -

If I ever get reloading, maybe I could tighten those groups up some more, but for now it's fine.

And it doesn't look like anything has been "tweaked" on this #1 either, so I'd say I'm doing good!

my tikka t3 270 likes 140 grain win supreme accubonds. also the xp3's shoot well...not much difference in the 2 bullets i dont think anyways:sniper:

Eagleye, if that's a good group, I'd love to see your awesome groups.
I have a mountain rifle in .270 that I bought off a member here, so far I have only shot WW 130g softpoints that I bought at walmart, worst group 1.25" but most groups have been under .7" so far, I love it. I'll try some of those accubonds, but first I'm going to give the good old 130g partitions a go.
And as far as the 140 bonded bullet goes, I also think you could/should use it for anything that isn't up close and wants to eat you.

My .270's like the 140gr Accubonds also. I haven't shot a moose with them (yet) but the mature northern whitetail bucks I've taken were down & out with one shot. An older hunting partner uses a .270WCF with 140gr Interlocks and has dropped a lot of moose with that load. No problem with penetration even on large rut-crazed bulls with a .270 and a 140gr bullet.

My first moose was with a Hornady 130grain. Your bonded bullet choice will only make a good thing better. Don't change a thing.:)

If the 270 needs a 175 grain bullet, how do we explain all the moose, elk, deer, bear and various other big game taken with the 140 grain 6.5mm bullets from mild mannered rounds like the 6.5x55, 6.5 M-S, 260 Remington, etc? I have shot a lot of game with 270-130/140 Partitions (and Accubonds), 6.5 and 125/140 Partitions, 257-120 Partitions, and they all work just fine when placed in vital areas. Regards, Eagleye.
