Comparing a spear to a modern bow is like comparing a tricycle to a ferrari. I think the spear hunt caused such a stink because most people accept the fact that it's the most primitive and least efficient tool one could choose to hunt with, besides a rock, which greatly increases the odds of wounding the animal. Choosing such a tool to hunt with when there are so many more efficient tools is irresponsible and serves no purpose other than stroking the hunters ego.
I think they banned it out of fear people would watch this guy and think they could do it themselves. How many people does this actually effect? You can likely count the number of non indigenous spear hunters across Canada on one hand?
Who cares how many it effects?.... If it is one, then that is 1 too many.....
Tell me, how much efficiency is efficient enough?... Compared too a rifle, a bow is very inefficient.... Does that mean we should ban bow hunting too?..... Or is that OK because more people do it? And how many people have to do it for it go be OK and not banned?

Wrong on so many levels... you have never used a spear, and many people have... you can't count them on one hand... or even on a hundred hands... the problem in this case was the social media spotlight... the other was the type of spear... ie. A "throwing" spear, which requires much more practice and some luck, because the motion required to deliver the spear on target is excessive and MUCH slower than the average bears reaction time. The vast majority of spear hunting has been done with thrusting spears, where the hunters hand is still on the shaft as the spear penetrates and the quarry distance is under ten feet.... it is a high percentage harvesting technique and does extreme damage.
You say a spear is irresponsible compared to archery gear, like a longbow is to a modern compound, like a modern compound is to a modern muzzleloader, like a modern muzzleloader is to a modern centerfire rifle... see where this is going. Get out a ladder and climb down off that horse... divide and conquer is the number one anti-hunting tactic because it works very well against the short-sighted hunting community.

For decades what do in the woods was "out of sight, out of mind". Then along comes social media and YouTube. Both of these have been detrimental to hunting because of idiots( that I don't consider myself akin to) posting stuff that even makes some of us sick. The two idiots laughing as the grizzly slid in a blood stained decent down a snowy slope( and then posting it online) is but one example of why we have targets on our collective backs. Anti's a gunning for us like never before and some of us are feeding them ammunition imo.
Not overly surprising when they have no idea what they are complaining about. Sad day when Amy type of hunting gets banned. Just one step closer to total ban. Not really hard to think arrows will be next. I just wonder what argument they will come up with now that they can’t say give the animal a chance and use a spear?! Oh right they still will cause they have zero clue about the real world.

I guessing you've never seen a spear before. Get a boar spear or samburu through your gizzard and you'll think you got plunge cut by a chainsaw.
A big part of the problem is the need that various fools have to post every single thing that they do on the internet. There are countless videos of Elk and Sheep being shot at ridiculous distances, only to fall down a cliff, never to be seen again. Not even to harvest the antlers that so many seem to prize above all else.
Here's a hint: if you want to stick a spear in a bear, waste an Elk, shotgun baby ducks, do it and shut the f#ck up.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Next step for antis might be to claim the bow hunting results in necessary suffering because the death is not "instantaneous" or as rapid as with a rifle... This might be opening a can of worms, depending on the actual wording and spin put forward.

We shouldn't be criticizing people posting their legal activities. We should be criticizing the lame-brained morons that can't wrap their brains around the fact their supermarket meat doesn't perform harakiri at the butcher counter, and being gnawed on by a wild animal is not a more peaceful way to go.
I don't know what the answer is, but I do know hiding has not done anyone any good since this idiotic criticism of hunting first started 50 years ago. Outdoorsmen's trophies and successful hunts, complete with pictures of the kills, used to adorn the outdoors columns of newspapers nationally until the screeching started in the '60's: "You should be ashamed of yourselves for publishing that murdered creature in your newspaper".
Avoiding the rot just lets it spread.
