I've been out hunting a few times with a Model 94 in 32 Win Spl this fall, and hope to get a deer before the season is over. It's a nostalgic thing for me this fall, as my dad hunted most of his life with one. His always hung over the kitchen door on 2 board nails when I grew up in the 50's-60's, and put a lot of meat on our table.
I have a trivia question about these. Mine has "32 Win Spl" engraved on it. Were they (or Marlins) ever made with "Special" rather than the abbreviated "Spl" engraved on them? Is "32 Win Spl" the official designation? I see it both ways on boxes of ammo.

Good question. It seems to me that I worked on a friends 1920 era M-94 .32 Special and that it was stamped with the full word "Special" rather than the abbreviation. But that was a long time ago and I might be mistaken. I do seem to recall seeing the the barrel was marked nickel steel rather than the more common Winchester proof steel.

they didn't figure the cost of putting a proper word instead of abbreviations back then- you get things like nickel steel, proof or pressure tested,"very best carbon steel" etc- esp on the finer english guns- i especially like nitro-proofed or prooved- just like "not english make" and actually saying full bore, modified, or cylinder bore or choke bore

I checked my .32 out (which is 4th generation to me) and it’s stamped 32 W.S. I hope you have a good hunt.
