Has anyone here tried either the S&B or PPU loads with 173-grain bullets in their Husqvarna Model 4100 lightweight rifle?

Pretty specific question... what specifically do you want to know? I shoot S&B 173 gr. Torpedo loads in my M77-RS 7X64 and 286 loads in my M77-RS 9.3X62... it is well made and reliable ammunition.

The reason I ask is because I've been told that model of rifle doesn't like the heavier bullet but I'd like to know if anyone has actually tried either those cartridges in one.

Also, I hear the European loads are hotter than the American ones.

My Husqvarna 7X57 would not accurately shoot a bullet any heavier than 150 gr. simply because the barrel twist was too slow.
Most bullets heavier than 150 gr. are longer, for instance 160 and 175 gr. so if you can find a short, blunt 175 gr. bullet it might work.
They are a beautiful rifle and as far as I'm concerned that's the only problem with them.

My understanding is that the twist is 1-12", much slower than the typical 7x57 twist, hence the issues with stabilizing longer bullets. Nice rifles.

Your understanding is correct, Pat. For some reason, they all came with 1:12 twists. However, they are quite accurate with heavy round nose bullets.

I have owned at least half a dozen of these rifles over the years, and all of them did well with spitzers up to 150 gr in weight. Sold one to a good friend of mine, and it will shoot 160 Partitions close to an inch, but it is the only one I ever had that would.

If the S&B and PPU loads with 173-grain bullets are round nose I'll bet they will shoot that ammo just fine.

They all are, except for the Husqvarnas built on the 1600 series actions. No one seems to know why, either.

Perhaps Baribal can tell us. He is the resident Husqvarna cleric here.
