I'm interested in checking out an IPSC or IDPA match to find out what it's all about. I noticed there is an IPSC match in Kingston on March 3 but there is no other info. I'm not a member of the host club and don't live in the area (I will be there that weekend though). Is spectating usually allowed?

Absolutely. Just explain your situation when you show up. I'm sure someone will show you around.

Spectators are always welcome!

A few things to keep in mind:

1) Hearing protection is mandatory. Someone always has a spare set of ears, but best to bring your own.

2) Eye protection: same as above.

3) Find out about the range amenities before you go. Water and lunch may not be readily available. You may have to bring your own.

4) Dress for success: make sure you have appropriate gear for the conditions. Winter = warm clothes, summer = sunscreen and (possibly) mosquito spray.

5) Introduce yourself! Let everyone know you're a newbie and that you are interested in participating one day. You will get a warm reception.

6) It's a competition. Some people may not seem that approachable/stand offish. Don't let that influence your opinion of the sport. Some competitors are very focused and intense when they are preparing to shoot or have just shot a stage. Normally these are very nice and approachable people, but just before they shoot or just afterwards they can be a bit... brisk...

Have a good time!

Spectators are welcome and you can also contact the IPSC rep for the club so you have someone to show you around and make the intros easier.

Sounds good. I will be down for sure and maybe talk my father in law into coming as well. Anyone from here going and mind if I follow them around a bit?

+1 1riot1ranger - IPSC and IDPA people are very friendly, and eager to share their sport. If you do hit on a competition, there will be a few who are "all business" and "in the game". Look for the majority who are having a great time, and they'll show you around.

The match is an indoor event with 6 stages and visitors are welcome to come and watch. I am the club President as well as the match designer. So I look forward to seeing you there.
