As the title says....is the Specter TR a good value? For those of you that own the Elcan TR or have experience with it:

Seems like a good idea having a pre-set switch type view, but is it all its cracked up to be? easy to use etc...?

The weight....its no light weight. I assume its built like a tank, but is it?

Most Elcan products seem to have excellent reviews on the glass. I assume this one is no different?

For those of you that have 1-8x Tactical type scopes does the Elcan TR features and glass put it at twice the value? If so what are you comparing it to?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Here is my 2-cents ....

I have owned and used several Elcan products. C79, DR 1.5-6 in both 5.56 and 7.62 as well as the TR 1-9 in 7.62

For the TR ...

Weight. Yes it is a Tank and well built. But in reality the weight is not bad when you compare to other illuminated variable power scopes after adding rings.

Yes. The glass is good and the 1x - 3x - 9x adjustment is simply the best feature.

Now that being said. The Reticle I find on 1x is very small and I need to turn on the red-dot to make it useable.

The 3x mode is clear and is the best setting in my opinion.

The field of view is smaller than the DR. In fact, I prefer the DR, but the 9X setting when using 7.62x51 is a plus.

Hope this helps.
