Spector DR 1-4x

Friend in the military tried it for his team/Squad whatever he is part of. He claims changing the magnification from 4 back to 1x zoom results in losing zero. Not sure if it's flaw in the optics or the mount. This issue has also been documented on a few review threads I checked

The scope is built as a 4x and the flip lens corrects for 1x. So the 1x is less precise, but the one I've used has not 'lost zero'. It is heavy, but the glass is beautifully clear. The newer models also have repositioned mount levers.

Losing zero would not be the term I would chose.
I have not seen much if any difference in zero between the two settings, at most is about 1MOA.
The solution, is to zero at 4 power. When changed to 1 power, you might see a change, but 1MOA at 100m isn't much and it gets even less of a issue the closer in you get. Changing back to 4 power brings it back, so zero isn't really lost.
I would prefer a little finer cross hair, but other than that it is good but pricey.

As mentioned, when switching from 4x to 1x, there will be a shift in a point of impact. This shift is extremely minimal, and since you are using 1x magnification, we can assume you are close enough that even 2 inches of POI shift won't matter.

Other than that, it's heavy but the glass is amazing.

Is the MPO III a better way to go then?

Researching both and know little about the "new" optics out there now.

Elcan DR

I use a Elcan DR1.5x6 and am happy with it on both powers. Have not noticed any zero loss on either. It is a little heavy but is very clear. I have it on my Swiss Arms Classic. rigrat

I just saw the price of this thing... LOL are you guys on crack?!! a 4x magnifier that costs more then the AR ?!!?! now I've seen it all

Obviously, you have absolutely no idea what this bit of kit is all about.

Back on topic.

Does anyone know what Gen/Revision is currently being sold here commercially? Also, if anyone is going to the SHOT Show, please let us know if there are any new versions coming down the pipeline.

NO loss of zero switching from 4x-1x.. only a small POI shift. Thats why when it is zeroed you do it at 4x.

Even removing the optic from the AR, and then putting it back on doesnt typically lose zero.

Gen I had some issues with the control knob, (the rubber O-ring being too tight)

Gen III are state of the art, and were selected by SOCOM for MK18 block 2 upgrades, as well as the M4 Block 2. (Spec ops)

my friends mom's exboyfriends stepsons buddy had one as well and from what he said, they totally suck.

I have been thinking about the os4x Elcan, which I understand is a DR without the 1x feature for Service rifle. Anyone running one of these????? The British picked this as their new optic a year or two ago and at 1199 list it is way cheaper than the DR.......and less complicated to boot...

Thoughts?
