Can't wait to get these.
We are testing it out this weekend. As for plugging the gas system, we are trying something out. If it works we will publish the steps.
How did your gas system plug idea work out?
What about just installing it backwards?
Is the hole in the gas block in the center? I don't recall.
Will this work with .308 calibers?
Just an update for you guys, we test fired the rifle we built using parts from an M&P 15. It worked great. Zero extraction issues with steel case and brass case ammo. We are going to fire a few hundred more though it tomorrow.
We tried 2 methods. Both work. The best method is to take your gas tube, remove it from the gas block, cut the tube down to 1.5" and then install it upside down. This plugs the gas port in the A frame gas block.
Method 2 is ultra lazy. Just cut the gas tube about 2" behind the gas block and crimp it.
We figured it's best to destroy the gas tube vs destroy the gas block.
My plan was to turn a collar that slides over the gas block area with a set screw that would tighten down over the gas port.
This was suggested by the member who goes by "Polkey" a while back. His idea seemed to be good and I am happy that it works. If the OIC goes away we can reconfigure our AR rifles with only the $20 for a new gas tube.

We can probably make something for people that would do exactly this. But if you already use a micro gas block and a free float handguard, simply putting the block on backwards works great and recycles another part.
