OK, SBI is selling upper and lower receivers for this 180-type rifle.
What parts are used to assemble a complete rifle? Where are they sourced? Trigger group is basic AR-15. What about the barrel assembly, the bolt and carrier group, etc?

i can't speak to the upper but do have a mk i lower. what i know:

only one takedown pin (bolt) in the front which comes with the lower.

takes AR mag catch and trigger pins. takes AR furniture. takes AR triggers however drop-in triggers will require some fitting to the bolt hold-open.

my version took wk180 bolt hold-open and safety (which was too wide) however my understanding is that the mkii lower takes an AR safety (but could be wrong). also on my version the external bolt hold-open lever sat proud of the lower due to the scalloping there but that may have changed as well in the mkii.

sbi has a sub-forum here where they are pretty good at answering questions. sometimes.

Here is a list of parts True North Arms emailed me to complete an SBI lower and upper build. There may be other companies supplying these parts as well. This list might not be complete but is a good start.

I think the new lower is narrower, which allows standard AR safety parts to work.

Apart from the bolt hold open, I think I have all the AR arts to complete a lower, as well as the AR parts used in the bolt (extractor and ejector units).
Still wondering if an AR barrel will work. Or, if an AR barrel extension is compatible, then I could always make a barrel.

pretty certain AR barrels work; they do on all the other 180 clones. just gotta watch gas system length so as to work with the piston which is 180-specific.

The standard gas system on the 180's is carbine length. A few manufacturers in Canada are making gas system parts compatible with mid or rifle length gas barrels, but this is custom work and may not be completely reliable or tested.

my rwa 180 upper was mid-length. if using AR parts and faced with buying a new barrel or trying a TNA rifle length or Third Echelon mid-length piston, i'd go for the piston.

I have a perfectly good AR barrel that I would prefer to use, rather than purchasing a new specific 180 barrel. Installing a rifle length gas system would be preferable.
Would prefer to keep the cost down by using as many on hand AR parts as possible.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that The bolt carrier you linked (5th link in your bolt subsection) is made for the gen 2 Wk180. It has the notch for the weird new non reciprocating lever that the gen 2 has, but doesn’t seem to have the holes for the gen 1 fixed levers. The SBI upper is made to work with the gen 1 fixed lever or the WS-MCR bolt carrier and lever.

Don’t takemy word for it, I’m only saying that be cause I read through the 20+ pages of the SBI upper on their forum section. In that thread, SBI themselves said they didn’t want to do it in a non reciprocating fashion because then, the lever can’t be used as a forward assist.

If I’m wrong anyone please tell me and I’ll retract my comment.

Could you list examples of handguards that will clear the gas block/piston properly?

Or is there a hard/fast rule about inside diameter for clearance? The ones in my parts bin are no go - the "channel" that becomes the top pic rail is too narrow at the sides for the piston cup, though I'm tempted to just mill out the inside a bit - at least that way it's free...

I was also looking at the Maple Ridge V1 - anyone tried that one?

No one can suggest a handguard?

I wanted to get something semi-complete while I'm looking and the garbage handguard I had in my parts bin did not fit... so I just ran a half inch mill along the top rib to give clearance to the piston - fits nicely now... but I'd rather have a long handguard.

My understanding is that the some of the handguards sold by True North Arms fits the various 180 options. They list compatibility on their website.
