SPECULATION THREAD - Marstar's 70,000 SKS identification

I thought that Somalia were still using them for there pirating bussiness?
:p

They probably are. We have no idea what country in Africa these are from - could be almost anywhere.

If I had to guess, I think it would definitely be one of the places without a lot of civil unrest lately that also used the SKS in one capacity or another.

Some places seem more likely than others, such as Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, Angola, Libya, Tunisia, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritius or Zimbabwe. Most of the other African nations, while prolific users of the SKS, are either too unlikely to be able or willing to pin the guns, are more likely to have used them to the point where they were unsaleable, or are regions still too violent to conduct business with. Others, like South Africa, never used SKS carbines in any quantity.

I would seriously doubt Sierra Leone or Republic of Guinea.

Between 1991 and 2001, about 50,000 people were killed in Sierra Leone's civil war and in the last few years there is a dramatic increase in the number of drug cartels operating there, many from Colombia.

The UN presently is concerned that this may lead to increased corruption and violence and may turn Sierra Leone into a de-facto narco state. (much like the Republic of Guinea and Guinea-Bisseau already are)

If it's between those three, it's got to be Equatorial Guinea. It at least has a stable government and a thriving economy, for Africa, that is.

Another thing of note, Sierra Leone's military has used the FN-FAL for decades. During the civil war, the majority of the militia was equipped with AK's of mixed origin brought in by arms dealers. I'd be surprised if there are 70,000 serviceable SKS rifles in the whole country - but who knows?

sierra leone has adopted the SKS but like my list shows it ranked second.
