speed loaders or moon clips

hi guys,
Ive been shooting IPSC for quite a long time but limited to the standard, open and production divs. Now since I just acquired a SW586 with 6'bbl. I decided to try the revolver div. need your feedback and comments of which is the ideal of the 2- speedloaders/ moonclips and which brand. planning also to get the safariland 002 holster or fobus roto belt holster. if you also a preference when it comes to speedloader/moonclips holder. thanks in advance. ffgats

I use the safariland 002 holster with safariland comp2 and 3 speedloader which i lick alot i never had the chance yet to try the moonclips

I've shot both with a M19 with speedloaders, and a 625 with moonclips, and the moonclips are WAY faster than the speedloaders. You can get your cylinder machined so it'll work with both systems; see http://www.moonclips.com/ . For carriers, I like the BladeTech dual carriers ( http://www.cactustactical.com/bladetech/moonclips.html ), and their 38 Super versions will work just fine for 357s.

I have Safariland comp 3s for my 586 - awesome fast - compared to all the other safariland loaders or the HS twist ones.

Unfortuantely they are no where near as fast as someone with moon clips.

I use a 686 and Safariland Comp 2' and 3's. With practice you can become very fast, but, alas, not as fast as moonies.

FWIW SDC and JohnC can attest that I can hold up my end of the log.

I don't think you are allowed to use a 6" revolver for IPSC. isn't it 5" or shorter? I have the 002 I think it is OK. Thee is also the 003 I think that one allows you to tilt it forward or backwards as well. I have not used any other holster so can't attest to the speed difference of any other. I also use safariland comp 3 loaders they allow much faster loading than the hks or the comp 1. The bigger handle on the 3s give quicker grip and better clearance between cyl and frame.

I watched a guy with moonclips and one with a speed loader recently. On the strength od that, I would go with the moon clips! Fewer motions. :!: :idea:

Hey all;

Anyone out there using a Ruger GP 100? I have one but am having a devil of a time finding a right handed holster. I thought I'd switch from standard to revolver for a change. Any ideas where else to look?

How long is the barrel?

Any PPC type holster for an L-frame Smith will work.

Also, the CR Speed for revolver should work.

It holds the revolver it by the trigger guard has a nice tight fit and is very fast to unlock.

Thanks for the links. The barrel is 6" but I figured it was worth using rather than leaving to collect dust in the safe.
