Match in Norway, these guys have impressive speed with a bolt action. Surprised at the speed of the guy with the M98 action once he gets going, Krag is fast also, wow.

Wow. I'd love to see them use actual military rifles and see how the results are affected but still nice to see the Krag and Mauser are still living up to their name.

holy crap!! if it wasn't for the issues the mauser guy had he would have been as fast or faster than the guy with the semi Aug!!

and I love the side/top load on that Krag, that is really unique

I am not surprised at the cycling speed on the Krag; they are smooth. But I am curious as to the charger type reload, likely 6.5 X 55. Can't see 30-40 in Norway and definitely can't see 30-40 being that fast off a charger.
IMO

Very neat. Good accurate rate of fire out of them for sure. Second on the curiousity about the strippers/chargers they're using - don't look like the usual metal strip ones at all.

Shooting National Championship in Norway of 2008 in Elverun. The finals of each category and qualification are showed by the Norwegian Television regularly: only after the terror attacks of the Crazy Breivik the Norwegian federation decided to not show the championship on TV

In the '90s the Krags and Mauser were sobstituted by the Sauer STR Scandinavian as official weapon in the National Matches in Norway.

Thanks for posting.

...I've wanted a Krag for a while now, and this vid did little to abate the craving!

Mine's a Springfield and you really do want to get one. History says when they were designed it was for smoothness and speed of action.
I find mine to be as fast as a Lee-Enfield. I think that short of a Krag an LE is the fastest; even rapider than a Ross. I find that the Ross handle requires as much time as an LE. Perhaps that would change with practice but the turned down bolt handle rifles are just handier to grasp coming out of the trigger guard. Perhaps it's the closer proximity to your hand.
And don't get me started on Mauser's. They might be fast but I've not found them so; perhaps that's the ####-on-opening feature. But even my 96 comes off as slow compared to a LE let alone a Krag.
Others may beg to differ but for what it's worth that's my 2 cents

The mauser guy appears to be shooting with his second finger and keeping his index finger on the bolt at all times...
Yes I noticed this too, surprising. Reminscent of the YT videos of people (like Iraqveteran8888) doing the Lee Enfield mad minute.

I also heard about the glassy Krag smoothness but have never fondled one to test this out myself. About the ####-on-open thing, I think that might be part of it. I've always found Mausers stiffer and harder to get started than on my LE's. I think the difference is when you're doing ####-on-close you have momentum to help you out. Anyone know or think that these competition-tuned rifles might have lighter springs or something so the bolts open with less effort? That's the first thought I had when I saw him go at it...

It was cool that a non-semi guy won the tourney...

Krag shooter uses his ring finger on the trigger. All the bolty guys kept index on the bolt....n'er tied this, but looking forward to giving it a go.
