So my 15 year old Speedtimer is finally ready to call it quits and I'm looking to replace it.

I love Speedtimers for the functions and the loudness of the tone but I'm liking the size and functions of the CED. Jack has offered a good deal on a replacement on the Speedtimer but the CED has me interested.

So, for those of you who have experience with both, which do you prefer and why?

I've had a CED 7000 for about 6 years. Pros - very programmable, small, loud. Cons - mine crashes periodically (need to remove battery) and it is rechargeable only, if the battery dies in the field, it's dead until you can plug it in.

Speed Timers are ugly yellow bricks but they work pretty good. A replaceable battery is a huge plus, if only they would make the par timer adjust in tenths instead of half seconds.

I've been using a Pact club timer recently and I like it, but I cannot figure out how to reduce it's sensitivity to work indoors.

CED7000Pro great timer, tons of options, screen is easy to read in bright sun. Best time on the market now.

I have a Pocket Pro II from Competition Electronics. Simple to use, loud buzzer, large back lit screen and the sensitivity is adjustable so it can be used indoors or out.

I agree with Slavex, the CED7000 pro is the best all around timer out there. It has so many features it makes the others seam so basic. But for just pure ease of use as an RO I think the speed timer is the best choice. I you could only have one, I would go with the 7000 pro for all its dryfire and practice features and for it ability to run a match on as well as keep stats.

I have the old Pact MK III. It has it has the timer, a built in chronograph and came with the sky screens. Mind you I did buy this many years ago and I have not had a problem with it. If it packed it in I would buy another Pact.

Just my cent and a half (inflation) :)

If you want a cheap yellow one, I think Wild Rose will have a bunch of them for sale.

I use a Competition Electronics and it's been flawless, but I'm going to try a CED as well. So compact.

There is a version of the CED7000 that uses 9v batteries to avoid the recharge pain that you mentioned.

Haven't found that version, but I see there is an accessory that takes 2 AA batteries...

Edit: The Pro model charges via USB, so you could use any number of aftermarket chargers that will charge USB via alkaline batteries of various types. That would be bulky though if you couldn't wait for it to charge and had to operate it with the charger attached.

One of the clubs where I shoot regularly has gone to the PACT timer.

They look a little odd but they seem good.

Display is huge; beep is nice and loud and they are easy to run.

Looks like a good option.

I just charge my Pro in my car. Once charged it will last an entire weekend at a match with no problems.
