Speed up your Chargemaster

I got this off of another site I belong to and can not verify if it works or not as I have not tried it, so if you decide to try it please post your results.

I took this from a post on Predator Masters. Figured someone could use it here too:
This is right from RCBS:

Chargemaster 1500 Speed Adjustment

1. Turn the unit on.
2. When 0.0gn is on the display, press BOTH the ENTER and the EDIT MEM keys on the dispenser at the same time. Hold for a second and then release. If done properly ADJUST PARAMETER should scroll across the display followed by HSP 00015.68 (This number represents the number of grains away from your entered charge when the tube will shift from fast speed to medium speed. That is at 15.68 gn from your target charge the dispenser will shift from fast to medium speed.) To speed up the unit, this number needs to be decreased and to slow down the unit, this number needs to be increased. (On a slow unit, I would change this number to11.00 gn this is done by pressing the following keys: 1 1 0 0 ENTER (pressing the enter key sets that value and moves to next setting in program in this case, to medium speed to slow speed setting)
3. HSP 00003.42 should scroll across the display now. This number represents where the unit will shift from medium to slow speed. Using the same process as before in # 2. For a slow unit I would change this number to 2.50 gn this is done by pressing the following keys: 2 5 0 ENTER (pressing the enter key sets that value and moves to next setting in program in this case, to slow speed to trickle speed setting)
4. HSP 00001.08 should now scroll across the screen. This number represents where the unit will shift from slow speed to trickle. Using the same process as before in # 2. For a slow unit I would change this number to .90 gn this is done by pressing the following keys: 9 0 ENTER
5. This is all the adjustment that needs to be done to the unit. You need to press the ENTER key to cycle through the rest of the program. (approx. 22 times) The unit will start its normal initial countdown process when this is done. You need to test out the dispenser now. Enter your target charge and dispense. I usually disregard the first charge. Throw a few charges at these settings to see if they will work for you. If they don’t, return to step # 2 and repeat the process. NOTE due to powder variations you may have to adjust the unit for each powder. One thing I would add is that you write down the settings before you change them just in case you want to go back to the original setting.

I had also read on another site of which I don't recall the name, to reduce the number of over throws, stick a piece of McDonalds straw up the trickler.

Last weekend I decided to try it as I was loading up some 303 with H4895. I cut a piece of straw about 2" and inserted it up the trickler sticking out about 1/4 inch. Seems to work. After 100 throws, I wrote down that it had thrown 16 overages from 0.1 to 0.3 grains and one 0.4. Not much to worry about for an Enfield but you consistency nuts out there wouldn't want it. After the straw for the next 100 it threw 5. 4 at 0.1 and one at 0.2. Less overages = less re-dispenses (if you care) = faster Chargemaster.

I'll try the above next time I do up some loads, as I find my dispenser is slow. I am always waiting for the next throw bullet and brass in hand...

I find the stick type powders overthrow regularly. I load a lot with IMR4064 and have gotten pretty good at trickling a couple of kernels of powder back into the hopper to get the charge back to the correct weight.

I may try reducing the variables as mentioned in the OP, faster dispensing would be nice some days.

Hmmm. I've gotta warm up my google-Fu. When I press the enter and edit mem buttons at the same time it toggles between Manual and Automatic operation (stops auto-dispense when tray is put back on the scale). RTFM may be order here too.

Anyone else have anything to report?

As a side note I was dispensing H4895 tonight with the McDonalds straw. No over throws in the 50 or so it's thrown tonight. I was timing the last 10 to see if the above worked I'd have a comparison. Times were between 20 and 29 seconds for 37 grains. Is this considered slow?

It doesn't need to be a magic MacDonald''s straw. Just roll up a piece of heavy paper, like a business card, leave about a quarter inch sticking out. I regularly throw 50 rounds without any overage at all.

If my unit overthrows I take out 2 kernels of powder for 0.1 gr and it is right on. (IMR 4350)
It is no different as using manual scale and it is over.

I was loading 6.5 Swede with H4350 the other night with the McDonalds straw and after 100 rounds had only one overthrow. Have you tried that trick?
