My S&W 586 came with Safariland speed loaders and they seem to work well. So far I'm only finding HK for my K-38 (Model 14). Anybody with opinions or experience with regard to Safariland vs HK? I know that HK are regarded as slower but that's OK as I'm just looking at range use and not action shooting.

Not sure what model they use in the kit but I liked the one in my smaller 617 kit so ordered another very high quality:

Hi, I have used both during my range sessions with my model 10 and 13. The safariland were a tad quicker because of their operation, but I found both reliable and never had a problem with either of them when it came to reloading quickly. Admittedly, I tended to use the safariland when speed of reload was essential.

I have since replaced my k frames with a 686 and am awaiting a new arrival of speedloaders, and am going for the safariland because of the planned use with the 686 being competition.

Hope that helps?

FYI, I ordered mine from ebay. ECOP. shipped to Canada.

Silly and annoying question, but are speed loaders ITAR controlled?

Just bought a 686 Mod 3 and would like to pick up 5-8 of these.

The product manufacturer is licensed for export and someone like ecop is licensed to export so ITAR is not an issue (safariland or HK's). The safariland loaders (IMHO) are superior to the HK's, they also cost more money. I use HK's, comp 1's, comp 2's and comp 3's for ppc shooting. I only use the comp 1's and the HK's at the initial load and holster command, the rest of the time, I use 3's when speed is a big issue and, 2's the rest of the time. I don't like the way the 1's or the HK's handle. Having said that, they all work. If you think you may compete in the future, factor that into your decision.

Safariland speedloaders are superior to HKS in all aspects in my experience. The only problem is that the Safariland loaders aren't available for a wide variety of firearms. If you're not using some medium-framed .38 caliber revolver, you're looking at other options. I would love to see some Comp III loaders for N-frame .44 calibers.

For speedloaders for other calibers, I would look at Five Star's stuff. I like them better than the HKS and they make a pretty broad range of items for various guns.
