Hi all,

I've just lucked into a box of Speer Hot-Cor .308 165 gr HCSP.

I normally reload hornady (I have their manual) but was hoping that someone here has a Speer manual that can tell me if it has load data for this bullet in 30-30 using H335 (all the powder I have available at the moment).

If they do I'd love to know the data; it's for use in bolt action and the mag has lots of room to play with how i seat the bullet.

If there is no info I'll just post the box for sale in the EE.

Cheers!

I take it that you have a Savage 340???? Those little rifles are strong as hell. Any 30-30 load in your Hornady manual for the 165 grain Speer will be safe in that rifle. Don't use it in a 94 Win Lever Action.

The closest weight bullet for the 30-30 has a lot of surface area and is 170grain. Close enough. Max load for this is 34.0gr H335.

Speer list their 170grain bullet with 31.0gr of H335.

Your bullet isn't listed for the 30-30 in the Speer manual but in your rifle that won't matter.

Just checked my manual. No load data for that projectile in 30-30. It is listed for 308 though but not for H335. Hope that helps.

speer reloading manual number 10, book says' 308' dia. speer 170 gr. " this data may also be used with 165 gr. bullets", " * denotes use of CCI #250 magnum primer"
powder H335 Gr. *27.0 muzzle vel. 1828, powder H335 Gr. *29.0 muzzle vel. 1965, powder H335 Gr. *31.0 muzzle vel. 2120 fired from model 94 1-12 twist ww cases using 170 gr
flatnose. 'note," maximum loads listed should be used with caution "

Awesome, thanks everyone. I'm a huge savage 340 fan, have one in 30-30 and a real beauty in .222

For this I think I'll start at 28 Gr and work from there.

I seated one on an empty cartridge it sure looks meaner than your standard flat nosed SP.

I appreciate all the help.
