Good day gents and gals. I recently scored a few boxes of 250gr. hotcors, #2453 to try out in my 35W, and after looking in my speer manual, no.14, i'm thinking their data is really conservative. I had a look in the Lee manual, and they list going up to 5grs higher with BL-C2 for 250gr jacketed bullets. Does anyone have an earlier Speer manual that i could get the data for? I'm not careless or suicidal, i will work up slowly watching for pressure signs, but also realize that in todays liability world, all manufacturers have downloaded their data. I shoot a Ruger M77, and it'll drive 225gr bullets pretty damn fast, 2600-2700+ with no signs of pressure, thinking a 250 should be able to get to 2500 as opposed to 2300 in the Speer#14. Thanks, Dogger.

Did you have a powder in mind? You mention BL-C2..Speer #12 shows 50gr @ 2163/ 54gr max @ 2314. No powder listed exceeds 2400 fps. They list a variety of powders for their 220gr sp, none of which exceed 2600 fps. Hope this helps.

I dug a bit deeper into other manuals, which will not help in your quest for speed with the Speer 250gr, but will muddy the water with more numbers. Hornady lists 2-250gr bullets, top speed is 2800 fps with 74gr IMR 4350. Nosler lists the 250gr Partition @ 2637 with 58gr W748.

Speer volume 11 doesn't include 35 Whelen. .

Hornady Volume 2 . . 250 gr. Spire Point

- BL-C2 . . 48.6 / 2200 fps . . 50.6 / 2300 fps . . 52.6 / 2400 fps
- 3031 . . 46.7 / 2300 fps . . 49.0 / 2400 fps . . 51.3 / 2500 fps

Speer Reloading Manual No.12 lists 2386 fps as maximum with their 250gr bullet using H335. Test rifle is a Remington 700 with a 22" barrel.

I load my 35 Whelen Remington 7400 at 2450 fps which is near maximum with 250gr bullets.

74gr?? 35 Whelen case won't hold that much.

Thank you for your replies. Of the powders listed in Speer #14, i've got H335, BL-C2, and IMR 3031 and 4064. I just find it odd that the Lee and Hornady manuals show data for 250s up to very close to 2500, but Speer is as low as it is. Might be a longer bearing surface on the bullet?? There are a lot of hot rod recipes on the interweb, but i'll steer clear of those for now. I'll go with the Speer data for now, see how it performs, and then bore out to a Brown-Whelen if i'm still not happy..... LOL I'd still like to see and older Speer manual just to see if they've downloaded this combo over the years. Dogger
