Spencer Rifles question

Unless there were rimfire variants, you'd be correct. I'm tired or I'd be able to tell you definitively. The status determination chart in the stickies is great for figuring these things out.

No, it doesn't. Spencer 1865 was in 56-50 rimfire. Repeating rimfires are exempt. If it was converted to center fire though, yes it would have to be. My 1860 in 56-56 isn't.

check the stickies up above. the actual law is scanned in, in one of them. cc 84 1(b) and SOR 98-464 is what you are looking for. It is extremely unlikely for your gun to be a centerfire. The only ones that you will find are custom alterations with a centerfire breach and altered in recent times

The US military reworked a few of these for Cavalry use back in the day.

They ended up as .50-70s, mag held only 4 rounds.

I have seen and handled 2 of them.

BTW, Spencers were used by the Manitoba Prison Service right up into the 1920s. They were marked MPS. Must be the very last Gummint use of Spencers on record. Saw 2 of those, too, many years ago, didn't have the $35 to buy one.

Hope this helps.
