Spencer Vs. Sharps rifles?

[Power Pill]

i've done some reading on them, looked at pictures etc...but i can find anything on the differences between them...they seem very similar to me..

Is there a difference between them, other than name?

thanks

One huge difference - Spencer is a repeater with a magazine in the buttstock, Sharps is a single shot.

that is a big difference lol

the hammer and lever systems seemed very similar tho

The Sharps was considered a long range rifle, the Spencer was not, it was due to the chamberings in the Sharps, as even the comparatively small 45/70 was a better long range caliber then anything in the Spencer. Some of the orig. big Sharps cals. are still considered deadly on big game ie: the 45/110 and the 50/90.

Also the spencer is similar to a rolling block action where the bolt face rotates back and away from the chamber while the sharps has a falling block that slides vertically in a groove.
