Spike bucks in 2-18, 2-19

2-18 and 2-19 are bucks this year.

Does this include spike deer?

2 years ago we're hunting mule deer. I had drawn an antlerless tag in the LEH.

We decide to go grouse hunting at noon. Come back to my truck and my buddy says "There's a deer standing next to your truck.".

I say "Yeah, right.".

But there was a spike deer standing there. 2-19 was 4 point buck that year. I didn't shoot the little guy with my 12 ga. Would a spike deer have been legal in 4 point buck season?

There is no 4pt rule this year or last year for Mulies, if you had a tag, and a flattop LE - any deer was legal.
 
From this years regs:

MULE DEER (Black-tailed) 2-2 to 2-8, 2-12 to 2-15,
2-17 to 2-19 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Bucks . . . . . . . . . . . . .Sept 10 - Dec 15 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2

Dude - it's 'any buck'. That means anything with antlers that are visible. It does not include does or yearlings who's horns have not come up over its' hairline, but ANYTHING with visible calcium on top is a legal target.

So spike bucks (single antler visible above the hairline) is a go! Between sep 15 to dec 15 anyway.

Go back and get him. :)
 
Ok - i just noticed you were talking about 2 years ago - don't have those regs anymore.

IF it were a 4 point only season then no - you can't shoot anything with less than 4 points. Obviously. A doe tag would have allowed you to take anything WIHTOUT visible antlers, including a yearling whos antlers are not visible, but not a spike.

this year it's not a four point season - so you could have shot it.
 
I'm glad I didn't shoot the little guy.

I walked up to within 50m of him right by my tailgate and I had my 12ga pump with a slug in it.

I think he knew he was out of season :lol:
