Spikes .22 conversion any good?

I have a (computer dumb) friend who wants to get a .22 conversion for his Norc M4. I was looking at the CMMG, which I know works great, but like the added features of the Spikes .22 kit. They looks pretty similar, but do they function just as well?
 
I have one... it's awesome!

Use decent ammo (I'm using Federal Game-Shok) and it'll never fail ;) ...the SPike's is also effortless to clean.
 
Both are good... but can be hit and miss in some loose uppers.

Also, some people have frequent FTE's... But IMHO it's a small percentage of people.


I say that both are good to go.
 
I didn't care for the spikes kit so I sold it. If you are expecting Ruger 10/22 like reliability (like I was) you are going to be extremely disappointed.

CCI Quick Shok was the only ammo I ended up having to use in it to get half decent reliability.
 
My cmmg has worked for 1000+ rounds with no failures in my norc. The spike is veri simular. I have used the 333 round winchesters, and the federal game-shocks. Some cheapo roundnose stuff too. No FTF', or FTE other then when the ammo was a dud, and didnt fire..... not exactly the guns fault.

To be honest it feeds the 333 round winchesters better then my 10/22 does....
 
I have not used the spikes but I have the CMMG. I run it with a few FTE (usually when it gets dirty). The best thing to do to help with reliability is to buff the feeding ramp. This will help with the FTL and FTE. Try to use a heavy weight bullet as well.
 
I'm using the Spikes (bought from Questar) in my Norinco. Works fine, as long as you use the right ammo. The kit came with a note saying it was "tuned" to Federal ammo.
 
and how does one tune a chromed part? My Cmmg (also from Questar) worked great equally well in my Norc, CMMG, and Bushmaster, one chamber adapter cracked and Mark mailed out a new one the next day. It feeds he 333 the best of all...I think theyre a 36gr (light) bullet with a really high velocity.

I went back and read the note, and I stand corrected. It says that it was test fired with Federal, and a warning that any .22 lr bullet that has a lead tip may foul the feed ramp.

It also says that depending on your trigger set up, the recoil spring may need to be tuned accordingly.
 
For the guys that have used it on the Norc's. How off were the sights? Could you have the rifle sighted for .223 and then toss in the kit and have a decent chance of hitting something at say 50 yards without adjustments?
 
.223 was about 6" high if I remember correctly (if zero'd for .22lr at 50m)

I was toying with the idea of zero'ing the .22lr with the small aperture (which is elevated) at 50m, then hopefully the .223 will be zero'd with the large aperture at 50m.

Someone feel free to try this out ;)
 
My Spike's Tactical Conversion Kit arrived last week and I put 300 rounds through her in a range session. I had 1 stovepipe on the second to last mag using Winchester 333. I am running a 16" Armalite with a TA01 ACOG and using the BDC just like I would with 223 out to 50 yards. It seems close enough for what I am using it for. I figure this kit will pay for itself in a couple sessions. No way I could afford shooting an equal amount of 223 even though I reload. I'll save my 223 for longer distance shooting after I've warmed up.
