Hello fellow CGN'rs!

Quick question,

Does anyone know of a company or someone
Who sells spiral bolt body's or will machine mine?
Can you even machine Factory bolts?
My rifle is a savage 10 MDT tac-21 chassis.

Thanks!
Cheers!
Tony

Pacific tool and gauge and sharp shooter supply. It's easier to get a ptg bolt body in Canada.

PTG body's aren't really spiraled. They are more like flattened on the sides. SSS bolts are very cool. I have a diamond one that is very well done. Here is a pic.

ATRS won't machine a factory bolt as they say it is unsafe. I trust their judgement.

Lots of other reputable smiths have been doing it for years all over North America. I suppose Rick can have his opinion and people can listen, but I would love to see any evidence of how minor fluting to a bolt body reduces the integrity of a bolt. Especially since all of the bolt thrust is taken up by the bolt lugs....

Any machinist or smith doing this that knows what they are doing wouldn't take more than 20-30thou out. Shallow fluting is perfectly fine. Otherwise I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to get factory fluted versions, or they would be unsafe with the removed material.

For some set ups, that spiral flute can increase drag of the bolt through the action.

Personally, if this was just for looks, go for it... it this is for speedy function, I would keep the bolt body as is and maybe jewel if you want to dress it up.

YMMV
