Spire point 30/30 bullets

It baffles me just a bit as to why a person would be trying to achieve performance of a 300 Savage out of a 30-30.

So, unless you were just trying to plink with, or get rid of some pointed bullets, loading them in a 30-30 seems like an exercise in futility.
That's all I want to do is use up some bullets I have on hand. Seems that proper 30/30 bullets are getting hard to find if the WTBs for them on the EE can account for that.

If I wan't more from a 30cal, I'll just use my .308.

Then I say, Paul....you fly right at it!! :) I believe there may be a bit of a shortage of actual 30-30 bullets out there at present.

I acquired a big lot of Norma bullets in 30 Cal. They are 150 grain RN with a slight boattail. They have a nice cannelure, BUT, it's too far back on
the bullet to use in a standard 30-30 case, since the loaded round has too long a COL to work through the lever actions [M94 and M336]

My solution? I trimmed 40, 30-30 cases back enough so that when seated and crimped, I can use these bullets in my 30-30's.
Could not crimp in the 30-30 die, since the crimp feature was too far out, so substituted a 300 savage seating/crimping die, which is shorter, and it works perfectly.

So now I have shorter-necked 30-30 cases that allow me to make use of this "oddball" bullet in the 30-30. Being RN in design, there are no issues in using it in the tube mag.

A bonus is that it shoots right around 1.5 moa in my Winchester and even better in the Marlin. All I have to do now is find a deer to try it on, lol.

Regards, Dave.

That is the way we shoot em most of the time... 150 BT's with 38.0 LVR and single jacking...
