All of these rifles were glass bead blasted and rust blued, stocks re finished except for the .351 WSL which was purchased 90% complete. Only polishing was done on the bolt bodies.

What did you use as a finish on the model 70 stock? Nice work, btw!

The finish was 50% Minwax Polyurethane Satin and 50% tung oil applied by lint free cloth. First 2 coats are applied over the checkering also, then the checkering is taped up. Then about another 4-5 coats with sanding in between. That is to fill the wood pores. Buffing is the final step.

The above formula came from a musician restoration forum. Can't remember the name though. One guy stated it is as good as tru oil and alot cheaper to acquire and just as durable.

The barrel had pitting at the muzzle and along the edge where the barrel met the wood. Opted to rust blue instead of hot bluing. Gives a richer black finish and I believe a nicer finish. More time consuming but well worth it. The pictures in the original state don't show how bad it actually was.

The Sear was wore out, so safety wasn't working properly either.
