Sporterized Garand value

Never saw much need for a semi-auto hunting rifle, but if one feels compelled to go that route you can certainly turn a silk purse into a sow's ear.

As long as the receiver and other parts aren't chopped/drilled there is value in them as a basis for a restoration.

its quite obvious you have no idea what your talking about. Garands make good sporters and work well if done by a competent gunsmith .
where do you think the M14 came from?

Majority of sporterized guns have their front hand-guard removed...I was thinking of that when I heard "sporterized garand".
In my opinion just taking the sights and bayo lug off doesn't count as a sporter.

Its likely a Lend Lease Garand....look for Brit proof marks BNP at front of receiver and the side of the Barrel.

These Lend Lease Garands were in that serial number range and the Brits " sporterized " them after the war...checkered stocks, nip the barrel down a bit, uncut oprods etc...

They can make good parts donors if the barrels are not nipped as they are usually really nice '41/'42 dated and the sights are usually period correct early with early bolts and trigger groups....not in US service so they did not get the armourer upgrades to newer parts.\Cheers Paul
