Does anyone else here get a little peeved to see sporterized service rifles being sold in the Milsurp Exchange?

Not entirely sure why I feel this way but I think they are best advertized in the Hunting Rifle Exchange. Perhaps if the rifle is a good candidate for restoration but I don't think these rifles really qualify as surplus service rifles anymore.

Yeah I know, I'm splitting hairs. Curious to know if I'm the only one that thinks like this?

I never look at the hunting firearms section in the EE, only Milsurp. So if someone has a cheap 303 that I can restore, I prefer to see it in Milsurp.

I don't do much buying of anything (fiscal considerations with us Old Farts) and have only bought a single thing through the EE.
As it were, it is a Ross, possibly a factory sporter, that was in with a bunch of military rifles.

I would have missed it completely if it hadn't been in with the milsurps.

I can really see your point, Riflechair, and have great respect for your opinions but, in this case, we're both very happy with things the way they is (are?) (were?) (am?). You know what I mean!

I bought a pair of SMLEs. They had good descriptions but no pictures. Asking was $600.

I paid $500. Turned out to be sporters. Noob selling them did not know any better. I should have asked for pictures.

So, if sporters are on MILSURP - ask for pictures.

I have to admit, there are a very many rifles I'd not have otherwise been able to "collect (and maybe later repair)" if it wasn't for the lower (initial) price of the sportered rifles....;)

As it is, I managed to find a Carc, Steyr-Mann, Enfield, Schmidt-Reuben......:)

I posted a similar thread and the same people responded. I don't care for it either. I'm OK with restorable items but chopped and bubba'd belong in sporting rifles, because that's what they have been turned into.

i have a bubba old krag now listed on milsurp.................i hope a buyer will take it and restore it as i did to the other 6.5 krag i kept.
sporter or not , i think its best that they post on milsurp for reasons as stated by prevois replies.

thanks

Like many other I perfer to have the bubba rifles in the military section since that is what they where and for soem lucky piece can be again. I wouldn't look in the sporting section.

I would prefer to see them in milsurps too. I subscribe to the belief that if someone is looking for a milsurp to restore, he would look at the milsurps section, find bubba, and restore her.

oh ####!!

Actually, some like this one are not "real" bubbas, but it's lower end commercial BSA / P-H "refashion". It had both military and civilian life and are actually collector value as is. Except for the action itself, it has very little military value remained.

I'd like to see them listed as "Milsurps" if they have the potential to be restored. However, I guess the average guy who gets one handed down to him wouldn't really know one way or the other....
