Yup, a sporting clays gun is close to the ideal all round gun. As mentioned, it will shoot flatter than most trap guns, meaning that you need to hold closer to the target than the typical high shooting trap gun which usually has a higher comb and the balance on the sporting clays gun will be more nearly neutral where most trap guns have noticeable weight forward bias. A longer barrelled gun (30") will usually be balanced farther forward than a shorter 28" gun. A trap gun will also typically be heavier because in trap many shooters fire hundreds of shots in a day, weight absorbs recoil and contibutes to a smooth steady swing. A skeet gun needs to be quick and responsive, the opposite of the ideal trap gun, a sporting clays gun nicely bridges this gap and will work great for club level trap or skeet. A sporting clays gun is often a better choice on trap for women and seniors as well.
