I have a few guys that I shoot with each week. Often someone that has not shot sporting comes along. These people never fail to have a good time. It would be nice to have more ranges available but I know it is cost prohibitive for most clubs. Please post if you find a new club opening up. Thanks

It's not only cost prohibitive, but the environmental issues can be huge, depending on the terrain and soil type. One group had all of the land arranged, the CFO approvals and county approvals in place, but they were stopped because the soil type could potentially leech lead into some streams. And of course there are approvals from the county required, concerns about noise can be an issue.

We have to be careful lead is a potential risk factor
On the other hand trillions of litres of herbicides and pesticides directly into lakes and rivers poses no threat to any breathing subject on the planet
Western Canadian agricultural provinces the largest contaminator likely on the planet

That would be funny if it wasn't so ignorant. At any rate, back on topic, I wonder just how it is expected that lead leaches. I looked it up and found little on if/how lead can leach but did find this. Kinda vague, was looking for something more detailed but "Soil can be contaminated with lead from several other sources - industrial sites, leaded fuels, old lead plumbing pipes, or even old orchard sites in production when lead arsenate was used as a pesticide. Lead accumulates in the upper 8 inches of the soil and is highly immobile. Contamination is long-term.

With the way that the prices of everything have risen in the last 3 years and the continued assault on gun owners and guns I would be surprised to see many new gun ranges of any kind opening up.

A basic 5 stand course would be a great option for clubs that don't have the space or just can't afford the cost of a sporting clays course. Vancouver Gun Club here has 50 throwers for their sporting clays set up and that's a bill that's just not affordable for most clubs. 6 throwers could provide a 5 stand course with most of the typical target presentations of sporting clay such as teal, chandelle, crosser, rabbit, over head looper, quartering.
