I would like to purchase a pump action or semi-automatic shotgun for hunting grouse and duck as well as for shooting trap and skeet. Is there a shotgun out there that can fulfill both of these roles or must I buy two separate guns? I have shot the Browning Maxus and the Remington 870. I like both of these but I cannot afford both. Which of these or any other do your recommend for my purpose. Thank you.

I have both and cannot see why the browning maxus will not do everything you ask of it. I know mine does:)

I've been using a Benelli Supernova for both trap and skeet for about 1000 birds now. The gun is not really a limiting factor me yet; I can certainly hit the skeet doubles with it.

I think it might irk the other boys when I change out chokes and head to the rifle range to slight in some slugs while they pack up their Perazzis. :p

I've yet to take it in to the field. It does have mounts for sling swivels and comes with a magazine plug.

Standard message is *no shotgun is a perfect "do it all" shotgun* - according to the experts - but me and millions of others have yet to find out why a solid pump doesn't fit the bill pretty close.

Get the Maxus. A pump gun will always be a handicap to one degree or another on the skeet range. The Maxus is a very good gun that will do everything you need. I'd also suggest you look at the Beretta 391-2.

What's wrong with buying more than one gun?

i think the most suitable gun for u would be a baikal mp 153. relaible , durable and rough & tough built like a russian tank. try to hold one in ur hands and dry mount and if u feel comfortable with its weight , it is surely gonna to b ur " go to " gun

I prefer a wet mount so much more fun.:)

I find my Benelli Nova works on the range and in the field. Sure it might be nice to have an auto for the range but I dont find it to be a must. The longer barrel is nice to and I just find it to be a level above the newer 870's

Just dont try to use it for home defense...

I use to shoot skeet with my 870 and have over 7000 targets shot with it.As i got more familiar
shooting with it i was as fast as any semi on the range. Now i got a silver and really enjoy the
less recoil felt after a day on the range. With now over 5000 shells out of my gun i'm glad of switching
to a semi.

I appreciate all the replies. I have decided on a semi-auto shotgun but the Maxus is too expensive for me right now. I was looking into the Browning Gold Hunter or Sporting Clays but I am having trouble finding a retailer in Canada that sells the Browning Gold. Does anyone know where I might purchase a Browning Gold Hunter or Sporting Clays in Canada. I would prefer to buy it with a synthetic stock/forend but I am willing to modify it myself if I must. Thank you in advance.

check out this place they have around 3000 guns in stock, so they should have one, there also a browning dealer. http://thegundealer.net/

I recommend a remington 870 for a pumpgun. I own an 870 supermag waterfowl in duckblind mossyoak. The supercell recoil pad on it is magic. I love that gun. I've changed a few things, but that was by preferance. More or less trying to beat murphy's law. I've put it through hell and back.

For a semi, I'd say a browning maxus. It's a beautiful gun. Light, feels nice, kicks nicely. Brother in law is alway buggin me about my remington, but as much as I'd hate to admit it the maxus is one sweet peice of gear.
