Sportowy 22lr

Loaded ammo has quite a taper compared to these inserts..The loaded 7.62x 25 is very sloppy fit in the chamber... I didnt have machinist dye so I used soot

but then didn't you say
I coated the adapter with valve grind compound and spun it in and out of the barrel until it went easy

so you basically reamed out the chamber so it would be sloppy after 8 rounds being drilled into it with valve grind compound... stock ammo is like sloppy seconds

I tried the loaded ammo first... and it was sloppy
I basically destroyed the first adapter trying to find out where it was binding... I was under the impression that it just had to be rounded off at the end...this was not the case for me
I am betting that more material came off the soft aluminum adapters than the hard steel barrel with the compound.
The end result for me is that the adapters fit in the barrel with no slop and cycle in the action smooth as silk

Anybody get a micrometer on the inserts yet? I am going to do some measuring of some 7.62x25 and compare to the inserts.... Maybe they just a need a .001 or so polished off of the diameter?? back in a few....

ok..... so.....Did some measuring...(in mm... sorry my digital mic is being real grumpy and I wasn't switching it)

First at the base ...... 3 S&B 7.62x25 = 9.71/9.69/9.70 ------3 Inserts = 9.85/9.85/9.93
Above the shoulder 9.40/9.38/9.41 ------ 9.56/9.59/9.56
Near the crimp 8.35/8.36/8.34 ------ 8.71/8.71/8.64
length from base to shoulder approx 21 ------ 22

So Im thinking that some polishing should make them fit....comparing them it does look like you could take a lot of material of the radius of the 'bullet'. The actual bullets are more 'pointy' Sorry if I have any terms wrong, just trying to help :)

then it would be interesting to compare chambers and that might be where the problem lies, inconsistant barrels...?

I suspect thety made the chambers different from a standard 7.62x25 so that you could not in some stuipid wisdom fire a 7.62x25 cartridge in the pistol but we shall have to check that out.

The aluminum inserts are softer than the barrel so a very large majority of the material will have come off the inserts and not the barrel.

The problem with what you did is even though the amount of material you removed from the barrel is minimal you may have inadvertantly damaged the rifling at the end of the chamber a bit but I dont have one on hand to see if this is the case however a definite possibility.

You are absolutely correct...if this was an Olympic target pistol costing $1000 there is no way I would have done this... I figured its only a $99 training pistol .. I am willing to take the risk
The end of the adapter is hollow so its unlikely to contact the rifling.. It literally took 30 seconds to fit each adapter

It is all good experimentation, well maybe the chambers are all a bit different although I kind of doubt it, gotta find out though, before proceeding to have more inserts made up. I would think we want the inserts to fit as well as possible to prevent gasses leaking out ! Hope mine get mailed soon!

I would doubt that the chambers are different too... The pistols are used (mine is 1954) but the adapters are new... I dont know if someone made them up, of if a bunch of surplus adapters were found

The firing pin is offset so it shouldn't fire a cf BUT who knows, it would still be close, that wouldn't be good wood!

Well the round will chamber in the gun no problem ( you think they would have made the chamber shorter or something)...I sure wouldnt want to try pulling the trigger tho

Both of mine came in yesterday. Each pistol came with eight inserts which not a one fit into either pistol chamber nor in the Sportowy that I have had in my possession for over ten years but I did try 40 inserts that came with that pistol in the new Sportowys and every one cycled perfectly....Ran 20 rds of the Federal 525 Value Pack thru both pistols using the old inserts that I had and not one Failure to Fire or Extract. I'm sure with a little emery cloth I'll get the new insert to perform. Other than chasing inserts....its a fun little gun to add to the Tokarev collection

do the new inserts look the same as your originals?..I know that these are new manufacture inserts

I hope to have most of the Sportowys shipped out by mid next week. Selling a couple hundred in 12 hrs kind of swamped us. On top of that we ran out of the box size we use to ship them...more came Thursday.

Anyone having problems getting the inserts to fix properly? I've been at it for 2 days and they are still not fitting properly, still got about a 1/8 of an inch sticking out of the chamber and I can't seem to get it any better, If anyone knows anyone making new ones let me know, or ....if someone is willing to make mine fit i will pay $20 :) plus shipping cost

All 8 of my Sportowy Pistols are in transit to me right now and arrive mid next week. If I have time to tinker with them before I leave for a three week business trip I will post information on what I do to fix them.

Got mine 10 minutes ago,, initial impressions are that I am glad I got 2 cause I will likely need one for parts!! One is better than the other by far and overall would call it good but have not seen the insides yet came with piece of grip cracked off! Second one is very well worn and has a homemade replacement pin of some sort replacing the pin that goes through the slide, just below and in front of the rear sight I think it holds the firing pin in though I will investigate later. The replacement pin appears to be soft metal like aluminum and had bee peened into place. I would not fire this pistol till I find out what else has been messed with! I think these might be worth $99 if they fire and are safe but I will for sure tear them down for inspection and anything that looks hokey, I will have to take it to a smith or just part them out! Will let you all know and if I can figure out how to post pics I will!
