The title says it all, I finished making a list all the parts that are needed to restore my old .303, now the hunt begins. How do I spot the "correct" parts when I see them ? I know that just about any part out there will fit, but I'd like to keep things as "correct" as I possibly can. Of particular concern are the mag, nosecap, and read sight protector, secondary concern is the wooden bits, although considering the high price that they command I might end up buying whatever I can get my hands on or even carving up my own, by hand. I found out thru a few websites that there are quite a few variations of those parts kicking around, and I'd like to avoid buying the "wrong" ones ....

They should have an itallics "B" on them if they are WW1 era BSA. Unmarked parts are also correct, if they right variation for your rifle.

That's the whole thing ... what "variations" are right for my rifle ? And what do they look like ?

Well, actually ....... it's pretty simple..... ;)

In the CGN MKB (Milsurp Knowledge Base) under British Service Rifles, there's a 137 picture photo montage of an "all correct" and "all matching" 1917 ShtLE (Short Lee-Enfield) No.1 MkIII* - Mfg by BSA (click here)http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82870. Just review the pics and make notes of how this old girl is marked and then look for the matching parts through all the various sources.

Regards,
Badger

and keep in mind that the armourers just reached into the parts bin for the next item that would fit. They were more concerned about turning out a serviceable rifle than matching manufacturers.;)
