spotting scope help

hey guys my father and i are thinking of getting a spotting scope in sub 1000 area, any suggestions? was thinking something from vortex as i have experience with their scopes but open to other suggestions, farthest our ranges go are 300m so anything past that is over kill.
 
If I ever had to replace my Kowa TSN-1, I would look at a Vortex. Don't cheap out on a spotting scope stand. Look at a Freeland stand as a minimum or something from Ray-Vin or Creedmoor or First Strike.
 
Kowa are definately awesome spotters. Don't cheap out on spotter you will be disapointed and end up changing anyway.

The best bang for your buck is always the Meopta Meostar S2, half price than anything comparable. That being said the new Meopro has just hit the shelf this year and using the same lenses and construction practices as the Meostar it should be an awesome unit and a fraction of the price.
 
I'm also in the market for a spotting scope but my budget is a little lower than yours. The name that keeps on popping up in the lower end market is Konus. They get great reviews on the American gun/hunting/shooting forums especially considering the price. Might be something worth considering if your only going out to 300.
 
i am very impressed with Alpen 20-60x80 Spotting Scopes but have no experience with others mentioned here. I believe it goes for about 500-600$.

Would seriously consider an angled eyepiece (if you arent already) and take a pair of shooting glasses with you when you test drive a spotting scope .. not all eye relief is created the same. Kowa understand shooters needs.

I thought the Petersen link with their assessments was a little "odd" eg regarding the Kowa :"However, due to the impressive resolution, mirage on warm days wreaked havoc on perceived quality at long ranges. While hot days don’t provide as pleasing of an image, it’s still sharp." well sorry but you cant suck and blow at the same time. A good optic "shows" things a bad one cant
