Spotting Scope on sale at CTC

I got a rain check for one today. I hope the store brings in the bushmaster one and not the other one??.... they had no idea when they were comming. I won a $20 CT gift card at a weekend thing I was at. so I figure for $30 it should be worth it :D

My bushmaster has that funky image shifting problem. When you start turning the focusing knob or go from clockwise to counter clockwise the image shifts from side to side a bit.

I got one of these a couple months ago and had this exact problem, returned it and got another that did the same... not impressed with the quality over all, I returned it. Get what you pay for, and on sale now, so probably not a bad deal. I think I'll save my pennies for something a little better though. ...or just blow them on something else :D

Just got my rain check today.... i had bought one previously and didn't think it was that bad... (had split on it with my brother when it was $100) To say the least we did bring it back that day, since the tripod wasn't included in the box for some reason. Oh well, great deal for 50 bucks!

Read this thread after buying mine (the bushmaster). To recap my experience:

- Have been thinking about dumping $100+ on a cheap spotting scope for a while
- Saw the bushmaster in flyer
- Saw the mini mak online
- Found only mini mak in stores (x3) - was tempted didn't bite
- Confused about x2 different products with same stock number
- Got a rain check & date with ETA for arrival
- Went to store and took one of the 3 they had
- Unpacked it and decided the Bi-pod & focus knob were poor quality but serviceable
- Tried it outside and decided it would do the trick for 200 yard .30 cal & 100 yard .22

My one lagging doubt was whether or not I'd be better off with a 2nd hand cheap Bushnell (see them in the EE occasionally for ~$100). After meaning to do it all week I finally got on here to see if anyone had heard of these/bought one/had an opinion... and of course CGN never lets you down - it sounds like in side x side comparisons this Bushmaster stacks up OK and consensus is that it's worth $50. Never any issue returning stuff to CT - buy first, ask questions later. Or is that shoot first...

Long live CGN!

Just got it (Bushmaster) at CTC for about $56-ish after tax (raincheque). Any idea how to make it work? ;)

P.S. Just kidding; I'll try it tomorrow - but any pointers will be geatly appreciated.

A better alternative is one that Costco is selling. It is a Meade 20-60 X 60 mm. It is rubber armoured, waterproof/fogproof, fully multi-coated and has a 45 degree eyepiece. It comes with a cheap tripod, soft cases for the scope and tripod as well as a hard case for the whole kit. Cost is $60!!!

I bought one last Thursday and sold it for $100 at a garage sale on Saturday. I'm going to buy two more.

Got a Costco stock number for that? I mentioned this to my local Costco and they looked at me as if I'd just dropped in from Mars...

Cheapest one I see is $99.

Sorry but the wife said try Costco Canada and they have Tasco, Bushnell spotting scopes, range finders, trail cameras and a Browning scope. So there when it comes to shopping you have to ask the right person, the wife. The Mead must be USA?

The Meade 20 - 60 X 60 mm spotting scope I referred to doesn't show on their web site. All I know for sure is that I bought mine at the Kamloops store and that the Kelowna store had them, sold out and has another 200 on order, delivery due in mid June. I also know that for $60 for the whole kit they are a terrific deal!

Beyond that I have no idea which stores will carry it and which won't.

got the bushmaster from cnd tire today with raincheck. plus the scatch and save sale on today ! :D. only got 5% though. so I paid 47.50 I guess. had it outside for a couple mins. looks blurry at 60x but fine at 20. hopefully I can see .223 at 200 yards.

I'm not sure why the end moves. to act as a sun shade? and slides in for smaller storage? that's my only guess.

anyone had these out to the range yet?

it's probably a sun shield and possibly a dew shield.

I just know that cheap scopes are usually bad scopes. terrible mechanics and the ranges of magnification can't be used properly. 40x50 for instance? no way. that's like a 1.2mm exit pupil...you won't see anything. but, if it works well enough for you and you're happy, that's all that counts in the end. :)

Princess Auto sells 23x spotting scopes with tripod for $28.88. I just got a call from them that mine is in (got a rain cheque last time). The quality should be OK for the handgun range.

Update:
I just picked up the scope at P.A.
The scope has a rubberized finish. It looks cheap and rattles, the magnification is more like 15x but the image quality is better than I anticipated. It's OK for the rifle range too.
