Spotting scope recommendations for up to 300m Range?

I'm looking for a nice spotting scope that would have an effective range of up to 300 yards (but typical use would be 100 to 200 yards).

Preferably I'd like something nice quality at a nice price (i.e. good value to cost ratio), up to $500 new or used.

With the ranges you have in mind you almost certainly want a 15-45 and no more than a 20-60 (the lowest common ranges of zoom). Leupolds and Nikons typically fall into your budget.
