Spotting scope recommendations

I paid $250 for a scope that would easily do what you want. It's a used B&L from the EE. That's where you will find the best spotting scope for $250, but you never know when.
I also have Minox MD50 which is 16-30x50mm. I think it is quite good for the $300 I paid including shipping, taxes, from CameraLandNY. It was new but a demo hence the price. I wouldn't bother looking for anything comparable for less money new as it seems too unlikely to be worth the effort. It is quite compact and I got the straight version because I wanted it for dual use initially, and now it is primarily for field work since I got the B&L 20-45x60 to keep in the range kit.

To stay on budget I'd go with a Bushnell Trophy XLT 20-60X65.
You asked for a 200yd spotting scope under $250 and the Bushnell will do the job. For reference I found one at WSS for $239.95. Check our sponsors first

I looked through the Bushnell at the Mission range and could see .224 holes at 300yd plenty ok.

Thanks, I'll add them to my list to check out. I'm not opposed to spending a few extra bucks if it will meet all my needs now and later. My last 4 purchases were with sponsors so I'm on board with the idea. P & D has the XLT for $227.

Bought this same scope. Does the job. The included tripod is ####e though and need to find a benchrest sized one to replace it.
Look on the Camera land NY, site sponsor, I got my Nikon spotting scope from them and range finder and just ordered some Minox bino's from them this week. They have good prices and are great to deal with, mention you are a member here for better deals. Cheers Roscoe
The type of targets being used, and the lighting plays a huge part in this. The orange on white targets make it much easier to see bullet holes, than a black bullseye. As well, it's much tougher to see bullet holes in a black bullseye on a dull day.
