I'm thinking of investing in a spotting scope, but am not really ready to drop 500-1000$. Whats out there for under 200$ that would fill the bill? I really only need it to see 30cal holes at 200m, and 22rf holes at 100m. I never shoot beyond 200m.

I think that Burris made a few in that range. Every once in a while you find them at yard sales or flea markets. I picked up an older Bushnell Spacemaster for $25 at one. Secondhand stores get them. Tripods can be found for under $20.

Check Cabelas and Wholesale Sports too.

I would recommend you have a serious look at a Konus 20-60x80mm. You should be able to get one for close to $200. I am very pleased with mine. Search the optics forum and you should be able to find some more information on it. I think it is very good value for the money.
