I'm starting to do some LR shooting and am having a heck of a time seeing 22 cal holes on my target at 500 meters. I'm spending more time walking than shooting (not like I don't need the exercise!). What types of spotting scopes are you guys using? What power magnification and objective sizes? Thanks in advance,

-Jason

PS- I'm looking at a Celestron Mini Mak Spotting Scope 30-90X. Any thoughts? I'm trying to keep the price under $150 for now. Will upgrade later.

You will never see any 22 size holes at 500m with any spotting scope under $150.

You might need to try the 90mm or 130mm Maks to be able to see that size of hole at that distance.

Small diameter and/or cheap optics just don't have that kind of resolution. When you crank up the power, it just gets fuzzy. The mirror scopes are still the best bang for your buck, just don't expect miracles.

I use a 20-60x80 from Barska and I can quite easily see my target hits both for .22 and .17 HMR. If your looking at the 150.00 price range that might be an issue.
