I came across this photo of the SPR D Day 60th aniversary special edition.

I wonder is the caliber accurate? Did they refer to 30-06 M1 ammo as 7.62? Or was any ammo marked as 7.62 at that time.

My first guess is no, the advertising agency took some stock images of a post WWII ammo can for this.

Great movie of course, the packaging does not detract from it at all.

.30-06 Springfield = 7.62X63 (.308" dia. bullet)
.308 Winchester = 7.62X51 (.308" dia. bullet)
7.62 Russian = 7.62X54R (.311" dia. bullet)

Never get the 7.62 milimetre thing confused with bore diameter.

"...Never get the 7.62 millimetre thing confused with bore diameter..." Or 7.5 Swiss. Or the actual conversion of .308" to mm's.

200 Cartridges 7.62MM is an ammo can for the US M60, the old GPMG or the new MAG 58. Anything US during WWII would have been marked in Cal. not metric.... In other words, they have the wrong ammo can in the pic!!
