Hello all,

We have convinced the SPRA to allow us to run a "Boomer Shoot" on August 20, 2016 at the North Star Range near the town of Nokomis. This is essentially a open class, muzzle brakes allowed event. Match will be held after the regular long range palmas and scoring meeting has finished (approximately 16:30).

-F-open rules will be followed with the exception of allowing muzzle brakes.
-Match will be 2+10 @ 800, 900 & 1000 yards. Total ammo requirement for the match is 36 rounds. (1 minute blow off to allow fouling of barrels will also be given)
-All calibers allowed under 50bmg. Sorry no 50s.
-Membership to the SPRA required and can be purchased at the event. New members $5. Previous members $50.
-Match cost is $20.
-SPRA target puller crew will be employed.
-Bolt flags will be required on the line. Can be purchased for $3 at the event.

This is basically a test run event for the possibility of more future events. If turn out and interest is high enough, we may be able to run more events the following year and *possibly make this a regular club level event*. In the future, we have the ability to run this event at 1000, 1100 & 1200 yards as there is firing points at these distances**. (More land is available to go further yet!)

*This is what I hope to see happen in the future.
**Clearing of the campground area required for these distances.

For now, please post comments or questions here and I will do my best to get answers back as quickly as possible.

We've got to hit this hard. Remember when F-Class shooters were second class citizens? Its time to pull in some of those good-old, back section (back 40 doesn't begin to cut it), crown land, pasture rock busters and Retumbo burning, muzzle brake wearing hill-folk together. There sure are lots of them, and its about time the member strapped shooting sports stopped excluding more shooters than they have members.

The shoot is being held at the North Star Range east of the town of Nokomis, Sk.

Edited original post to include location

I was hoping with your location info that it would be closer to Saskatoon.

Unlikely I could attend even if I was in Saskatoon (long ways out from town). Either way, I like the direction you are going with this and it's reasoning. Sadly, our shooting disciplines really do separate us.

If you're around Saskatoon at that time, then you can ride out with me if that helps. Its only 90 minutes; a big cup of coffee and you're there.

I don't see any reason to not shoot both events.

Sounds like it would be fun, but I wouldnt want to get laughed at. Im still working my way out the far. :)

Fully expecting a few new long range shooters. If there is any laughter, it will only be with you, not at you. I dropped 10 points at 800 after calculating my drop incorrectly. Was 35ish inches high to start. No one laughed at me only laughed with me afterwards when I'd discovered my mistake.

Try and get your muzzle velocity nailed down and your sight height over bore figured out. We can likely figure out your drops if you haven't got an app for that.

We are all still learning the wind! Sometimes I get it figured out, others times I walk off the line still baffled at what just happened!

Come on out and giver' a go. I fully expect Dogleg to kick my butt but I'm going to have blast :p and meet some more great people!

Ill have all that stuff pretty much figured out, its just the wind that Im trying to figure out. :)

If you ever get it figured out you'll make a fortune giving seminars. Its a lot of fun, and you'll be surrounded by shooters who are likewise having fun. I imagine heaven would be similar, just with a few more V-bulls on the card.;)

Shooter - Is there camping facilities close by?

There is a camping right on site. It is just a wide open area with no trees. Only a few 30amp plugs though and they fill up fast at $10 per night.

The town of Nokomis also has a campground and is only 7km from the range.

Thanks for the offer!

I'll keep that in mind! 90 min isn't too far, but I've had drove 700km to get to Saskatoon at that point.

I hear yeah there.

Maybe Ill have to rephrase that a little to, close enough. :)

Count me in, Shooter. I don't have a 'boomer' per se, but I'll try to compensate with boisterous chest-puffing :p

As you are already well aware, my work is always subject to change and if I'm home that weekend, I'll be there and will drag out a few more of our guys.

Great!! Maybe leave your daughter at home though. My ego is too fragile to handle an ass whoopin' by her! :p

Well, the good thing is, she isn't the type to boast. The kid drives me mad. Typical conversations of accomplishment go like this:

"You realize what you just did, right?"

"Mmmm, not really. What?"

"You see that dot in the middle with the all the pastey dots closely scattered around it and in it?"

"Yeah...."

"That's awesome! You see the guy next to you (me) with the pastey dots scattered far less closely around the middle dot? You did way better than that!"

"Oh....okay..... When are we going for supper?"

 :bangHead:

So during the June long range matches, some discussion was had that there quite possibly will be some longer shooting also happening with the Boomer Shoot. What we will likely do is have actual scoring for 800, 900 & 1000 but have some fun shooting at longer distances for fun. These longer shoots will be discussed the day of the Boomer Shoot and plans will be made then.

So my advice for those who are coming is bring extra ammo!

If coming from Calgary, you don't go through Stoon, from Calgary to Nokomis is pretty much the same as driving Calgary to Stoon if you head east just like going to Stoon and at Rosetown turn south then turn east and head trough Outlook right to Nokomis.

Not that 700km is a short drive by any means, but saves you that 90min and a big coffee from Saskatoon going that way. Maybe if I can get enough testing in and have my poop in a group (no pun intended) I'd debate going, but I don't buy the laugh with me for one second LOL.
