I can say it was a success! We had for sure 26 new 2014 member-shooters attend this training session, sold four new memberships, making 30 new members trained, and sold 20 bolt flags and had 13 existing members help these new members with training and safety. We created two groups (one for butts and one for the firing line) and rotated these groups from the firing lines at 300 M and 600 yds and butts duty. Awards were presented to the new member shooters in training in FTR and FO from their scores shoot at 300M and 600 yds. We had light winds at the start of the day (7-10 mph) and by 600 yds we had a little stronger winds (12-20 mph), lots of sunshine with a few clouds to make elevation changes known to these new shooters during the 600 yd sunny and bright to dull and cloudy periods at 600 yds. All in all, a great day that everyone enjoyed!

Thanks for a great day out, I really learned that the wind is not your friend! Also that the difference between a 5 and a 4 looks ok through the scope at 600 but is about 12" up close...lol

I would like to send out a special thanks to Tom,Kieth and Kevin for taking time to show a new guy how to shoot 600 yard v bulls. I cant say enough good things about your organization, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try and improve there shooting

I'm glad everyone had a good time and learned a thing or two. Just so you know, everyone at the open house was shooting on target rifle (TR) sized targets. We figured this way, everyone gets to shoot a few VBulls.

TRvsFClassTargets.jpg

In competitions, F Class fires on the same target, but with a added center that cuts the existing DCRA VBull in half, as seen in the above rings size chart. This added center only changes the V-5 on the TR target, the other rings are unaffected.

If you are a new member, and are scoped (F Class), you will be in the Greenshoot class shooting in either FTR (308 or 223 cartridges) or FOpen (all others), shooting against other new shooters in Greenshot.

In future competition at the SPRA, we will let the TR shooters shot first relay (sling peep sight shooters, on the bigger VBull) and once they are done, F Class centers are added and the Greenshot and a few other F Class shooters in Sharpshooter and Expert class fire next. The Greenshots will still have a mentor for each, as you did at the open house and the mentor can still coach you to help you stay on target. I'm separating the TR from F Class by relays so the older TR shooters can never say to these new shooters that "Coaching is not allowed" or to "Shut the F-up!" We are allowing coaching for the Greenshot class for the first yardage only, just to help you remember what you have learned on the open house day, and in case you missed our open house and still want to come compete. And don't be intimidated by the smaller VBull and 5 Ring, with your scope, it's still easy, just aim small and hit small :)

The sport of rifle shooting should be fun, so lets all have fun! It's a sport for all ages, from 12 to 90!
Come on out to the North Star range at the next event, and try it.
I will bet you will have some fun!

See http://www.saskrifle.ca/events.html for the next event.

We will be awarding 1ST through 3RD medals in all classes (TR, FTR and FO) and sub-classes (Master, Expert, Sharpshooter and Greenshot) at all our matches this year, plus the Greenshot class at the Victoria Day match will also have a door prize (a nice set of bino's - Thanks to a very generous sponsor - Hirsch Precision Inc. www.hirschprecision.com aka Lapua Canada) given out based on a draw of the Greenshot names

Thanks very much to ALL the guys there on Sunday and especially to Cal for wonderfully mentoring my daughter, Vicki (who, for the record, is just 13!) on the 300m line. She shot 600y by herself and still put up a 49-2V while Cal was busy helping other shooters. Obviously, his coaching is very effective!

Vicki and I will try our damndest to get out again, as my work schedule will allow. It was a fantastic day for both of us and again, thanks so much!

Yes, some of the newbies did very well! Especially the youngster...Vicki was kicking butt with a 284 I believe and Keith can correct me if I'm wrong, and Coty with his 6.5 Creedmore. Both shot extremely well. As did a lot of others. Hope to see them all out again.

Rooster thank you for the complement .
It was mind blowing seeing a 13 year old handling that 284 on bipods like she did . You must have spent a lot of time with your kid teaching her the ropes . I admire guys like you doing stuff like that for there kids I am looking forward to doing the same for my kids when they come of age .
You should bring her out to our competitions so she can shoot some more, Any one of use is willing to help her out .
