Spring Bear Guns

For myself, it'll likely be a Remington Model 7 in 260 Remington loaded with 130 grain accubonds. Or a T3x Battue in 30-06 loaded with Sako 180 grain super hammerhead rounds.

Details on this one please? I reallllly like the looks of it.

Damn. That's a really nice set up. I'd like to build one just like that sometime over the next few years. Thank you.

If i can swing the time to go this spring ill pack a 10ga with slugs. Likely my browning its lighter. Ill likely pack a sxs 4570 while baiting and use a 300wm as backup or if i find myself hunting a area that offers a futher shot. Both hunting guns are black synthetic so bug spray wont ruin the finish on a nice rifle while i sit in the bush

Well, If I was lucky enough to be out in the woods would be a 9.3x62 with a red dot mounted. Probably shooting 286gr Norma Oryx.

Longer shots I'd probably us my 7x64. Shooting something like a 160gr Nosler Partition

Scrumbag, I love the look of your rifle. Not a bear in Canada safe from that combo. Me, I’m hoping to use my new to me HVA 9.3x57 and some 270gr Speer. Got the minor repairs done and loads tuned thanks to the info supplied on this site. It’s been a journey as mine has a real tight chamber and neck. Next up, lead :)

Peeco,

Sounds a good set up. I'm going to try the 250gr Nosler Accubonds next for a bit flatter shooting option.

If you are interested, here's a "how to" on getting a sight block to work on the rifle that wasn't drilled and tapped:

Interesting you had a tight chamber.

I used Factory RWS 286gr T-Mantel for years. Then they stopped making it so bought some Norma Oryx instead - very tight to close the bolt.

Took to a 'smith I trust and added 2 thou' of head space. Now chambers everything beautifully having run ~ 80 Norma oryx and ~50 S&B through it now sorted.

Best wishes,

1895 Marlin in 444 Marlin shooting 265 gr hornady....and 300 PRC shooting 245gr EOL Bergers if the Marlin won't reach them.

@Digger2, something about red dots on brushguns eh?

I just took the Marlin out yesterday for a spin with the new setup. Took a bit to get it lined up, but after that it was GTG. This is really my first red dot I’ve tried and liked, I had a Sparc II found it to “bulky”. Red dots, low powered scopes, and peeps are king in the brush gun world. It’s 90% of the terrain I hunt.Nice 9.3 setup you have there.

:)I have a Marlin 444S in 444 Marlin that, with 265gr Hornady reloads, has proven itself as dependable;) 'Moose Magic' on a number of occasions. On most of the last number of Moose trips, its role has been as a spare rifle, where again, it has proven itself on two trips. While my recent interest in Marlins has been with a GBL in 45-70, the 444 will always have a 'home' in my safe:d.

Personally I stocked up on 500 projectiles and 120 loaded rounds of what my .308 lever likes best as this is my bear gun and I know what it likes... even if I can’t find ammo again period, I should be good to hunt a couple years with what I have !

I was in the LGS the other day and while waiting to pick up my Dad's rifle I had brought in for repairs to the bolt release, I heard the owner of the store profusely telling several customers to stock up on their hunting ammo for this year now, as prices were jumping by over 20% and that they were not sure if/when they would be getting this year's ammo orders in due to the buying spree in the US right now. Almost sounded like fear mongering to me...could also hear the pressure in his voice from what is happening with this COVID-19 crisis.
Yes, the jump in ammo prices are not surprising in the fact that our dollar has fallen so dramatically over the past couple of weeks!

Yet the ammo that's selling now was already in the country and likely in the stores before the dollar dropped. This is like the price of gas jumping instantly every time the price of oil goes up, but never comes down as quickly when the price of oil drops.
