Hard to say if it's too good to be true. This article is from mid August. The Liberals can can lie, steal, cheat and change their minds dozens of times over a few months.

I would like to see the spring hunt back, in line with most of the rest of the country, and bear hound hunters allowed to train their hounds from the end of the spring hunt until the start of the fall hunt. This would re-educate a lot of bears who have become emboldened by a lack of hunting pressure.... Failing this, I would like to see nuisance bears relocated to some of their original territories, such as, the Credit, Don, Humber and Rouge River valleys. Afterall, they were there before GTA was.
 
If they don't bring it back we'll continue practicing the 3 S rule in the north. It'd just be nice to see these animals turned into revenue instead of shot and left to rot, shot and dumped in communal graves, gut shot with .22s etc. This is standard practice up here right now and it's pretty sad if you ask me.
 
Would be nice. Our local diner in the spring used to be filled with bear hunters getting breakfast. The pizza place the same late at night. Not to mention the daytime purchases of tackle and bait. (these guys fished when not bear hunting) The eco tourists promised by the powers to be did not show up (after the spring season was closed), but then again we don't have any granola dishes on our local menus.....

The passing of a motion to create an all-party Ontario bear management committee has buoyed the hopes of those who would like to see a return of a spring bear hunt to the province.

Bob Garson, president of outfitters association Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario, says he hopes the committee is formed and that it comes up with a definitive link between the spring bear hunt's cancellation, in 1999, and what many say is a dramatic increase in nuisance bears.

“We feel the biology should support it but we really want to have the facts out there before we jump on the bandwagon,” said Garson, whose group represents outfitters who have lost business to Manitoba and Quebec, where spring bear hunts continue.

“Certainly we, as an industry, would really appreciate (the hunt's return). Anything to bring more people into Ontario for tourism is a benefit,” said Garson, who operates fly-in fishing stations in the White River area.

John Vanthof, the NDP's natural resources critic called the passing of his motion Thursday a victory for Northern Ontario. The committee, if struck by the government, would be charged with investigating the impact of the bear hunt's cancellation and cuts to the MNR's bear management budget, among other things.

Ian MacKenzie, chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Board, said he thinks a return to the spring bear hunt would be a step in the right direction when it comes to what he sees as an ongoing nuisance bear problem in the Sault.

The MNR stopped relocating problem bears last year provincewide, saying the program was its least effective bear management tool.

“It seems to have been dropped to the local police to do that and I don't think that's a healthy situation either,” said MacKenzie.

At the same time as Vanthof is calling for a bear management committee, a private members' bill by a Liberal backbencher could have MPPs voting within a matter of months on whether or not to bring back the spring bear hunt.

Liberal MPP Bill Mauro introduced a bill in October that would create and open season for black bears from April 15 to June 15 each year – bringing back the hunt cancelled by the Mike Harris Progressive Conservatives back in 1999.

MacKenzie said he's optimistic the bill will gain traction. He said he understands there are legitimate arguments to be made that cities have encroached on bear habitat, but he also noted that the nuisance bear issue seems to have coincided with the cancellation of the spring hunt.

“The problem is, when we're encroaching on bear habitat, we have to find better ways, with the help of the ministry, of moving the bear out of that habitat to another area where the bears and people, we can co-habit together,” said MacKenzie.

The bill could be up for second reading as soon as December.

David Orazietti, Sault MPP and Minister of Natural Resources, was on a flight Sunday and not immediately available for comment as of deadline.

Orazietti, who as a city councillor opposed the province's ban on the spring bear hunt, reportedly told the CBC last month that Mauro's proposal is not a particular idea he is ready to adopt. Orazietti was quoted as saying the MNR is working to address bear concerns in areas of Northern Ontario where they are an issue.

It will never happen although I wish it would. This is blantant pandering for rural northern votes.The bill will be on the table but alas it will die when the election is called never to be seen again. I hate the libtards dont fall for the bs.

Problem comes when there are enough bears that everywhere is bear and people habitat.;) Sundre fish cops just trapped and relocated two Grizz, last week of October. May as well have shot them, this late in the year, there's no way they're going to survive in their new location. Politics should never trum scientific Wildlife management.

F&W just caught one on the ranch we hunt west of Calgary on Saturday. There are four more on trail cams.
 
Well our POS Minister of Natural Resources is from here in the Sault so that idiot better be reinstating it for WMU 35/36. But I can see a lot of the muskoka region and HWY11 corridor getting one if its going by most calls about problem bears.
 
LOL - stupid Liberals. There is a pile of cash in getting out of province hunters using outfitters. Typical, the Liberals couldn't find their ass with a map, 2 hands, and a flashlight.
 
And the tree huggers will get financial support to create a commercial for TV showing motherless cubs looking lost and in fear, and that will be the end of it. Just like when it was cancelled years ago. Then your local Liberals will claim they tried to do this for the people in order to gain votes the next election. Any Liberal telling you they support anything involved with firearms is a liar IMO.

Southern Ontario. Mostly around the GTA. Tories manage to P!$$ off the middle class enough to stay out of power. Whoever I vote for I'll still end up out in the prairies working for most of the year next year.

It is definitely southern Ontario all right but I won't say what controls the vote as I would be sure to get kicked off here but you can read between the lines. It has more to do with social handouts to certain ethnic immigrants, their supporting family members are the majority of the vote nowadays. They are not going to vote for a party that won't provide housing, medical, appliances and cash!! And as long as McSquinty and his ilk continue to get in the province will continue to sink into an abyss.
