Spring bear hunt coming back to Ontario.

It is definitely southern Ontario all right but I won't say what controls the vote as I would be sure to get kicked off here but you can read between the lines. It has more to do with social handouts to certain ethnic immigrants, their supporting family members are the majority of the vote nowadays. They are not going to vote for a party that won't provide housing, medical, appliances and cash!! And as long as McSquinty and his ilk continue to get in the province will continue to sink into an abyss.

Makes me glad to live out west

And the tree huggers will get financial support to create a commercial for TV showing motherless cubs looking lost and in fear, and that will be the end of it. Just like when it was cancelled years ago. Then your local Liberals will claim they tried to do this for the people in order to gain votes the next election. Any Liberal telling you they support anything involved with firearms is a liar IMO.

And if we make a video of a child that's in their backyard and is faced with a black bear, we would be cruel for portraying a bear in a negative way.

Man I hate this. I can just imagine the pissed off animal activists nursing their $6 starbucks lattes, scarves and macbooks posting away on forums and making their voices heard to "protect" bears - then buying meat at walmart that's been clubbed to death. Of course they have nothing to do with bears as they live downtown where stray cats are the worst thing they will encounter this year.

If they would go for a walk in the woods and see a black bear, they would probably have a new perspective on something that has nothing to do with them, and a wet pair of pants.

The whole thing is bull Sh*t, other then for the small time outfitters, if they can not open all the wmu's then leave it be.

I'm not impressed what so ever with the out come, once again the South takes another kick in the Governments stupid angles.

Do they not think that the bears all across Ontario live the same way ? I guess the Northern ones are far more harmful

I`m going to be taking full advantage of this `pilot project` in hopes that the next party in power sees it`s success as a reason to reinstate the full spring hunt.

I heard it was a pilot project for select wmu's. Im pretty sure it includes at least one that is out my back door. I havent' hunted bear in the fall in a few years but I might take part in the spring hunt even ifs only to support the iniative.

What we don't know is what the markers for success are. Or if there even are any markers for success. Quite likely they're just going to implement it and figure out later whether they define it as a success, using criteria they determine after the fact. I suspect that 'participation' by hunters isn't going to make any difference at all as to whether this is a success or not.

Nevertheless, I've already got 4 other guys (2 of them are hunters, I guess the other two are going to get stuck being the camp cook) who have agreed to make this the start of an annual long weekend up north. We'll see if we can figure out how to bring a bear in with only a long weekend to play with (we won't be using a guide).

So anyone have any further word on this in terms of registering/numbers/etc? I know they have some boundaries defined and municipalities have voted to participate, but nothing specific for hunters yet?

Funny you ask. I tried google the other day to find some info and came up with SFA. The MNR web site doesn't seem to have any info on it either.
