Spring bear hunt... what will you be baiting them with?

ok, so i put out my bait today, used sweet feed (for beef) because of the high molasses content, fryer grease from the greasiest restaurant in moncton all over the set and burned some bacon while i was setting everything up. wish me luck

Deluxe Fish and Chips?

I just got home from baiting. We put out donuts, fryer grease, bread and lucky me, my buddy ate a POUND of bacon this morning so we had alot of bacon grease (we cooked 2 lbs all together) We also used some secret ingredient, very sweet and sticky (pm for details if you wish) Oh yeah, we also used a 25lb bag of fish feed from an aquaculture facility.

If this is anything like last year, I'll have a bear by Saturday! (I'm not picky)

I ususally bait 'em by sneaking up when they're sleeping and yelling out "HEY - YER MOMMA WAS A BADGER!". Works every time. :D

They'll come, I'm certain. My stuff hasn't been out long but it is south of where the bears are, I think there is a south wind forecast for today, that should waft the scent right into their habitat.

man i checked my baits tonight around 9pm, and they havent been touched after almost 10 days....time to move off pine glen and down to anagance. keep updateing this thread! i want to know how everyone is doing, if ya'll shoot a trophy post a pic!

Hello, I was up in northern Alberta for 4 days. Lots of snow in the trees still, lots of deer and moose around, but no sign of recent bear activity. Things are starting to green up in the ditches and wet areas. Anybody else been seeing any out and about? Eric

Just got back from our hunting spot and our 2 bait site's are hit and they seem's to prefer the dog food mix with deep fryer grease to the rolled oats mix with mollases. Our hunting trip will be on the first week-end of June , i'll keep you posted.

Like you, I usually hunt for bears in La Tuque, It's a great area with lots of nice bruins. I have a new spot I'm trying out this season. Although the bear population may be a little scarce at this new location, it's a lot closer to home and it should reduce the number of bears that are hitting my deer baits every fall.

The baits have been set for 1 week now and so far no signs of bears.

My sites have not been hit yet!!! it's been 2 weeks so far. But I have also been told at one of the registration stations, that they have only done 1 bear this year! so it seems as though the long winter and cold spring IS a factor.
