spring bear hunt?

I don't know about Ontario, but BC has one happenin' in the spring. Another reason to be here in the west.

Im sure the spring bear hunt will be reinstated but not this year.

It sucked that ON discontinued the spring bear hunt. Even uncle Ted Nugent voiced his displeasure over that. Unfortunate that most of the voting majority of the province resides on the banks of Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence seaway - blissfully free from of concious thought regarding large predators, wildlife incidents (except deer vs car), or the revenue that outfitting provides the local economies.
CGN`rs from that part of the country excepted, of course.

No spring bear hunt in Ontario until a yogi walks down some residential street in Richmond Hill and destroys someones birdfeeder.
it already happened in newmarket about two years ago
im hoping a few bears made dens in a few of them tree huggers cottages over the winter..then i hope they hang around the rest of the year to torment the hell out of the owners..

It was actually a Conservative government that put an end to the spring bear hunt, not the Liberals. The Liberals won't re-instate it because they're Liberals. The Conservatives won't re-instate it because that would mean admitting they screwed up in the first place. Fortunately Quebec still has a spring hunt, I'll be there the last week of May.
Yeah but in Quebecs infinite wisdom you must either hunt from an outfitter.
Bear outfitters cost an arm, leg and kidney.

Ontario requires non-resident bear hunters to hunt through an outfitter as well. I'm not sure how much an arm, a leg and a kidney goes for these days, but you should have no problem finding a bear hunting package for under $1000.

You're comment is somewhat misleading. Although the Conservatives did cancel the spring hunt, it was done so for fear of a defeat in the election being fought. Robert Shad threatened to expose Harris' affair unless the latter cancelled the hunt. The threat was credible since the polls showed a very close race particularly in regions where incumbents won by very narrow margins in the previous election.
Harris, being from the North really didn't want to do this but in weighing that versus losing the election, guess what he chose!

Its an idea. The MNR did not go after the farmers in Lanark County when they challenged the CO's to try to stop them shooting deer out of season to control damage to their crops.
The problem with a bear hunt, it would probably require outfitters to rally the bear hunters by advertising a spring hunt. The Lieberals would then just target the outfitters who would be conspiring to encourage lawbreaking.
They just couldn't win. Unless of course they refused to pay any fines and just went right back out and did it all over again. Then Bentley would likely take the example the a**shole Bryant and use the proceeds of crime legislation to seize the outfitters' assets.
We own a camp and about 3 years after they closed the spring bear season we started getting camp bears. We never had a camp bear and have owned the camp for over 20 years. We now shoot the camp bears, it's a lot easier than baiting for them.
Never named a party did I? I am fully aware that the spring bear hunt was canned in 1999 under the Harris government...one of a list of many blunders, but I would still vote for him over our current dictator!
My insinuation was that you would never see it reinstated under a liberal (or ndp for that matter) government.
