Well. there was a fair bit of talk and buzz around this past 2 weeks about the warm weather and the snow disappearing and the possibilty of some real early season black bears.

Decided to give Mom a break and took the little guy back to where I like to hunt, just to get an quick idea of how it's looking.

On the beginning of the trip in, it sure seemed like spring was just around the corner. You could walk on the dead grasses and travel in the trees no problem.

As I got in closer to my area, the snow became more and more. Melting yes, but there sure is still a pile of it.

In some places it was well over neck high combined with the low bush.

With the little guy in tote, I decided not to go right in to my honey hole, rather play it safe with a hungry boy and only one diaper! :D

No doubt we're heading into a great spring bear season... but winter ain't over yet, and in some areas there's still lots of snow...


Saw 3 grouse and two lynx and a few does as well..

Hell if it is thawing that much up in the peace already I figure I may have good luck with my spring bear hunt down in southern Alberta. The season south of pincher/mountainview, where I hunt bear, ends on the friday before May long weekend, which is really sh!tty cuz last couple years bears only started comign out in almost half decent numbers the last 2 days before the season was over. AND on top of that we can't even bait because apparently there are too many people... I personally think they don't want peopel bringing grizzlies to themselves, in the past three years I have seen 2 griz for every black down here.
 
I'm looking forward to spring bear, I'll be hunting the Kennedy lake area on Vancouver Island.
I think my wife is going to be happy I'm going out, at least then I MAY stop talking about it.... :)
 
I'm also looking forward to the spring season. Depending on weather, I was thinking of heading out to the Pass next weekend to have a look at the snow levels (and maybe shoot some coyotes). Last time I was out in BC, there was very little snow (which sucks because we still have a few brush piles we need to burn).
 
A guy I know is trying to convince me to go for Balck bear on Canada Day weekend with him :rolleyes:, and turn it into a bear and trout weekend.

I'm thinking April 1st will be my first trip in to assess things and go from there... and ya never know, the scout trip might result in a bear. I have seen bears that early before, ..

It's not bad,... very different from home though.

A lot of people like those big long white stinky muddy dirty water fish... , jack fish or pike or whatever it's called,... puke !!!!

I like brook trout, sea trout, bull trout, rainbow *(steelhead, but have been known to settle), Salmon, char, and few others,..

perch and walleye, and yuk yuk yuk,... none of it.

I like pink bellies! :):) :D
 
LOL...I hear ya!None of those invasive,slimy,toothy,or spiny bassturds for me neither.If it's not a salmonid it's a $hitfish and not worthy of sliming my flyrod cork.Lotsa problems back here with bucket biologists introducing $hitfish to what precious few pristine brookie waters remain!:mad:
