Spring bear!

Ted... you are hurting me... 35+ years of spring bear hunting shut down by crooked politicians! My spring bears go "gobble, gobble" now... I sure do miss it! And the post hunt BBQ's... on a positive note... I picked up 30 pounds of wild turkey jerky yesterday... you can't have just one piece!

Now, you are hurting me. Never tried it, but I'll bet it is delicious!

Going up north for the long weekend to scout my new trapline and apparently there's a whack load of bears in the area so I'm gonna pick up a license just in case. Doesn't look like turkey hunting's gonna pan out this year(no land to hunt/work)but hoping to get my first bear.Hoyt we've got the opposite problem ;)Still have to decide what I'll use to take the bear though. It's a toss up between the Mosin or maybe the crossbow. Was thinking 45 Colt but assuming there won't be an exit it may not bleed as readily and make any possible tracking difficult. What are you fellas using for spring bears?

So far this spring I've only seen 3 blacks but heading out today on the new quad, the temp is suppose to be in the mid 20's so things are looking up. By the end of next week they should really be on the move!

Went out opening day, just to see what was in the area (manitoba sandilands) I was in the bush for 3 days never even seen a single track? Mind you there was still so much snow in those woods that polar bears would think twice before trekking in there. Gona try again next week now that spring has finally arrived. Good luck on the hunt!

A buddy and I were out last week for three days. We watched
3 nice bears but didn't bother to shoot any. Was just an excuse
for a camping trip I guess and we both still have venison and
moose in the freezer.

Im heading out in a couple minutes in the dory to check out some nice grass flats and estuary's in search of bears, Good luck Ted and keep us posted when you get back.

done some cruising today (yes we had our licenses ready lol) nothing seen where we were but it s coming and next week end bear calls will work ....

we started to see gophers around 3pm .... when it was really warm +12 ....

What's everyone using to take their bear?

All 40+ bears that I have taken have been taken with a bow except one... for the other 150+ that I guided for, I have had sports show up with everything from .243's to 7mm Mags to .30/06 and .45/70's and 12 gauges with slugs... but given that I did all the work and had to do the tracking (mostly at night on my hands and knees with a Mini-Maglite in my teeth)... I was always pleased to see a solid .30 cal of some sort that they knew how to use... I had them all test their guns at my home range before begining the hunt. Bears are real "creampuffs" when hit well... but they are... well... "bears" when hit marginally... regardless of what you are shooting... take high percentage shots that you are confident in before you squeeze the trigger.
